Quality of teeth after tool sharpening
We are having difficulty maintaining the life of our hobs after they have been sharpened. We were able to get 9000 shafts from a new hob. We send them out for sharpening and when they are used after returning we are only getting 4000-5500 shafts per tool. Some of the things we noticed about the sharpened hobs versus the new hobs are the parts come out extremely hot to the touch. We have burrs at the end of the cut. The o.d. and tooth to tooth measurements seem to be at opposite ends of each other. We have four Mitsubishi GN-10 machines and they all are having the same sort of problems. We have also found this occurs mainly with our nine tooth hobs but not on our seven tooth hobs for some reason.
Do you have any suggestions for were we might start to assess this areas of concern.
Thank you

Re: Quality of teeth after tool sharpening
Who does the sharpening of the tools the original supplier of the hob or another company.
In which country are you based ?
We do many re-grinds for our customers who get equal quality & life from a regrind as a new tool.
The issues are around how the sharpening is carried out there is some information on our web site at http://www.acedes.co.uk/acedes/hob_sharpening_errors.htm this is mainly normal grinding good practice and clocking the tool as well as ensuring no grinding burn & de-burring the tool after grinding.
One other thought is are the tools coated when new and then not recoated after grinding.
