Kubudo
I encourage everyone to read up on Okinawan history especially as it applies to Kubudo. We are currently re-defining the specifications for the Kubudo patch and the continuing of training to keep it.
May I suggest you search "wikipedia". You may need to use the spelling "Kobudo".

Re: Kubudo
Only thing i would like to say at this point of my research is WOW!! There are so many weapons of Okinawan origin that we had not recovered. I am very interested and am working with a Sansetsukon(three-section staff) at this time. I have noticed that i do not hit myself as much with it as i do with the nunchuks.
prolly cuz it hurts more.

Re: Kubudo
There are many weapons of Okinawan origins. I am thinking of trying my hand at the kai bo(oar) or another weapon called a kwan do(it's a pole with a wide blade on the end). I am wondering if anyone might have a sugestion for a weapon that would fit me. Like always, I am open to any and all opinions.

Re: Kubudo
Youy're a big, strong guy.......The Kwon Do would be appropriate for you...they are quite heavy and it takes a strong man to properly handle the weapon.

Re: Kubudo
Mr. Boggs,
Those are great options... others you may consider are the axe, war hammer, or broad sword.

Re: Kubudo
I thought about those, but I was looking for something a little out of the ordinary. I might look in to some of those later though. Thank you.

Re: Kubudo
Now that the Iron Mountain Demo & Board Break is finished. I invite all of you to re-visit the Kubudo concept by:
1. Requesting a weapon to train. - Ask Mr. Weeks with a written request and the reason why you wish to specialize in this weapon. Include the weapons history, why you are requesting this weapon, & how you plan to use this weapon in training.
2. If your weapon is not approved... choose a different weapon and repeat step # 1.
-If your weapon is approved... then you must create at kata (between 30 & 50 moves) utilizing this weapon.
3. This kata (form) will be presented to Mr. Weeks and/or Mr. Fortson, and/or to a test board. The instructor/board may give you suggustions to revise this kata.
However, if your form is approved as final you will recieve a certificate of accomplishment from ATF in Kubudo for this specific weapon.
By the way... please name this form and provide the instructor/board with a written explaination of the moves in the form when you demonstrate it for approval.
4. After receiving the certificate, you then must choose another weapon and present a request for this next weapon to the board/instructor (see step # 1) within a calander month.
In order to keep your Kubudo patch you must repeat this cycle at least every other testing cycle (8 months).
5. Patches continue to be available by attending an in class Kubudo seminar and by paying Mr. Fortson $10.00 for the patch. Please review the new "Blue Book" for Kubudo patch placement on the ATF Gi top.
You must attend a Kubudo Seminar, purchase a patch, and have it correctly put on your gi before you may request a weapon to specialize in.
Another prerequisite is that you must also attend a Moo Duk Kwon presentation and give a paper to Mr. Forston on a Moo Duk Kwon topic. And then recieve a Moo Duk Kwon patch.
