Re: Up Block
Rino........
As you showed us last night an "up block" doesn't have to be the traditional one arm block.
I'm pleased that you picked up on that.....SEE.....There IS a method to our madness! OCCASIONALLY!
It is a wise man...or woman when being shown something NEW...asks themselves...."WHY is this being taught NOW?" And then reasons.....
MAYBE it is something I should remember!

Re: Up Block
Mike, I understand your logic, but even in a military combat situation you are armed with an arsenal of defensive materials. The cammo attire for one, kevlar vests and protective gear, even a tank while used in an offensive attack, is also used as defense to protect the soldiers inside.
"a squadron's best defense is to overpower their adversary with superior firepower even if out manned, gunned and, inevitably with mobile units, out of ammo real soon."
The element of surprise I would consider a defensive move. Even a sniper defensivly remains hidden from the enemy.

Re: Up Block
I could try my best to say something in repsonse but at this point i am out of my league.
Defense and offense cant be looked at many ways but in truth arent they the same?? such as a tank being used offensively when actually being defensive and protecting the troops at the same time...
the up block is placed as a defensive reaction can be used by anything capable of being held in your hand or just your limb itself. god gave you two arms if necessary i would say yes to use both as a deflective motion or strong defensive reaction(offense to offense). i would say the possibilities are nearly endless.

I do wish I was still able to make classes but it's great to see ideals that I've been saying for years once I figured out that there isn't any "blocks" in tang soo do, but rather strikes in a offensive manner instead of a weakly block instead of doing a "up strike" instead of just a block.
During our testing the boards we use are blocking our desired effect but yet the board's block is defeated with techniqe wheither using a strike or "block".
If one uses power in exicuting a block wheither a upblock, in block, down block or out block, maybe the agression you're defending against may end quicker. I do like the train of thought that is evident in the new styles suggest and being intergrated in class.
Rhino, I'll dissatree with your missconception that the millitary has bullet proff jackets since flack jackets are better than nothing but they're not bullet proff but designed to slow projectiles down to lessen their effectiveness as well to thawrt flack from gernades and other items of destruction used in war.
Congrats to Mr Waggoner for his appointment!
Hope to be able to make it to testing!
