It is what it is

It’s safe to say that the vast majority of people that play MUD understand the basic concept of PVP. Whether they wish to engage in it or not, sure as **** PVP believes in them and inevitably some poor bastard like Mubu will be bullied in this virtual playground. Tough **** for him. It is the way of things.

“You have to make it your own”. Q once told me that. Since that time Q has told me many things. Some of her words right down absurd; some of her words worth heeding. She is right about one thing… you do have to make this game your own. The game allows for a multitude of venues to follow from whence you can grow a character to your liking. Who is to say it must stop there? Who is to say that the purpose of said character is to “eradicate the realm of the horrors that haunt it”, or better yet, hunt down other players like the prey some of them truly are? MUD really is a role-playing game. Midget understood that. The creators of the game understood that even if they failed to communicate it more successfully. I think the game allows for creativity. I think the game, should you make it your own, allows for a better experience than most allow themselves to experience. Just ask Mary ****in’ Poppins next time her whorebagness is helping yet another n00b that’s bound to **** her over.

The point is PVP should not be relegated to a simple cat and mouse game where a ****ing brute like Answer thinks he can simply bash anything into oblivion, to a clockwork technician like Theo, a relentless killer like Teseron or the madness behind Elric’s bland stupidity, or Bowl and MadMan’s disregard for personal safety which makes them deadly. PVP can be quite a mind**** when allowed to work it’s magic. Why choose to limit oneself to the aforementioned methods, when other venues of manipulation can also be explored? The wiser older players see it. Might is not always at the tip of a sword, it is sometimes found at the tip of a tongue. Whether that tongue is licking the back of someone’s balls, distorting the truth and omitting facts (Vertigo knows that one well), or simply being persuasive by gaining influence and support PVP is much more when it is allowed to go beyond “bs Eldic^M”.

I disagree with rules. I disagree with a realm where more and more rules are introduced. That is not to say that I think that is the current scene here, but when people ***** and whine about the injustices committed against them, it invites for regulation of this sort to come in where it’s not invited. My beliefs about PVP are my own. I answer to my personal ethical code regardless of where that ethical code may measure against others. The disagreements that lead to colorful expressions where the silver lining is that I’ll be found facedown in a ditch come from exactly that: disagreements. Just because one’s self imposed pious ethical code is next to godliness, it doesn’t mean that others will abide by the same rules. We all need to agree that (actual player abuse excluded) most things should be settled between the players since they make the realm and its politics. Just recently I was having a blast camping the Dark Phoenix originally to keep Matthaeus’ newly rolled-into-thief’s ass from getting 4th quested. After that it was just funny. Alas, that too came to an end. So is the way of all things. About the ONLY agreement that we all can make with certainty, is that this is a PVP based game. If that were not the case there would be no limited items. I for example do not agree that Skull hardly plays and gets to hold on to the Nexus Spear but that is between him and Manwe and he does not see a problem. Since I choose to be a resident of Holo, I in essence choose to abide by Manwe’s rule until the day comes, if ever, where I choose to leave. Yes I nearly came when I saw the Nexus Spear chillin’ on DA’s vault floor. I felt the same way as when a favorite dildo is used for the first time after replacing a set of old batteries. Yet my dumbass managed to lose the spear within a couple of weeks to Theo. It once again resides with Skull and I seriously doubt I’ll ever again see it unless it’s flying in my general direction with bad intentions. At least the weapon was in play for a couple of weeks.

Just recently I *****ed Answer’s script for Q’s stormmetal greataxe. I did it because well, yes… I dislike Answer, but mostly because I really, really, REALLY want a pair of brown leather boots. I’d figured I could trade my way to a pair somehow since killing for them doesn’t seem to be an option as is the way with many other things desirable. I could always hunt chests, but my laziness does not allow it and after trying it a few times I decided it was just not for me. I would rather get others to do my bidding. Besides… history says that even if I were to get a pair, I’d lose the boots sooner rather than later due to my carelessness. Such is the way of things. At least the item would be in play. Yet I could not strike a deal with Answer. That venue proved to be worthless since no negotiation would take place, so now the cute little axe sits in a room all by itself. Lack of imagination.

I want a pair of brown leather boots. Who ****in’ knows what I’ll want tomorrow. Turlin has it right. I am never happy with what I have. But I am happy playing here even if it’s frustrating at times. Case in point, Eldic just killed my script as I typed this sentence. It is of no consequence really. He was broken long ago and from that, you can’t really come back. At least not when there was never anything to come back to.

Items for trade: stone jav, sparkling pendant, jeweled turban, stormmetal greataxe, executioner’s hood, etc.

The Bakstabbinkoont formerly known as the BawseeDyek,

First off you do not hardly know me so why even mention me in your post, secondly I quit on my own accord and yes it was due to my lack of desire to pvp but mostly from constant harassment from certain individuals. There is a fine line between pvp and harassment and some of you do not see the difference and i mainly pitty you.

I work long hours, and when i am not working i am working at home trying to keep my family straight so i do not have the time to deal with even learning to effectively pvp. I do not want or need any sympathy, my problem was a simple fix which just meant obtaining a mud for me and my personal friends to explore and have fun in our spare times and i did just that along with all 9 mods so we can experience all those things even I have never seen in the game, the rest of them were totally new and learning from me.

I did not even try to hoard the limited items i had i just made sure that the person i gave them to was someone who would put them to use and also was someone who had helped me out with items and information in the past. I liked running with a lot of the players I met on the board and wish them all well even if they felt I spoke too technical on gossips with computer talk as you clearly stated before Rellik, thats just the way I talk and its due to my love for computers as I run a computer store which is expanding to 2 more locations soon.

The point is really I was not there for you, I was there for me, and my personal friends whom I brought with me and whom have all left due to harassment from the bbs end of story.

Bah, I never held any animosity towards you. Frankly you whined too much and did little about it directly or indirectly. I only brought up your name because I needed someone that fit the profile of someone being bullied and Lord of the Flies came to mind but piggy was not available, so you it fell to you.

The post was not about you.

The post was about PVP and the different facets regarding it.

There are predators, there is prey. Sucks you feel you were harassed beyond the point of reason. Had you hung around long enough, I think you might've stayed for a long time of your own accord.

Hahahaha, so that was you camping the phoenix. Poor JB made 3 trips out there to find it dead.. EVERY TIME!!

MuBu, you are a whiner and shouldn't play this game. Yes you've said countless times you work long, long hours, and so do your friends, and you have to take care of your parents and blah blah. Bottom line is as follows; I've never even had the chance to engage combat with you, and you quit. You weren't being harassed, you were just foreseeing your own death, and that was inevitable, just like I am long overdue for a death (and it's bound to happen). I'm sorry you chose to quit, but the amount of whining and excuses you made were getting tiresome and redundant.

I understand if you're worried about getting your script killed, but why not simply not script for a bit, and only play when you're at keys, since you're so concerned about the safety of your character?
Anyway, you said I was responsible for the destruction of 2 gangs and the quitting of all these players. That is not true. Yeah, that would be a kickass title to hold under my belt, but I can't accept. I haven't attacked/kiilled you or Ancalagon once. I haven't sent people after you (they did that on their own accord), nor did I care really. Towards the end I did start hunting you, but with no success.

What I'm trying to say is that you can't blame others or cry about the harassment. You just basically just ****ed yourself. That is what really happened. No matter what bbs you go to, and regardless of whether there is PVP or not, you will find a reason to complain about, and quit again.
Sorry you quit, but good riddance.

Re: It is what it is

I noted one thing about MUD very early on ... PVP is inevitable. NObody is exempt from it. Yes some strike deals, some endear others to them, others create very STRONG allies and others just well deal with it.

Question was always known for her lack of desire to pvp for many reasons (one being she doesn't do well with it). SOMETIMES it takes just as much skill to avoid pvp as it does to pvp.

Question made many allies and there was a time in the game when her only real foe was Madman. Then came a time when all changed.

Turlin once said something like, "limiteds come and go, if you define your character by them, then lose those items, you feel you lost YOUR character". Forgive me if I screwed that up ... the point is valid though. SURE better equipment makes for better exp and stuff but playing the game does too.

Rellik remembers a time that she and shu lost all their good stuff helping me to defend my ganghouse when new DA members (with the help of a few seasoned ones) decided to raid it. They never complained and YES for the first time ever (other than Madman) she engaged in PVP against seasoned veterans. Rellik never quit over the loss of stuff and she still to this day has helped me even though she dislikes Answer.

Yes, I tell many people you need to make this game your own. I remember a time that I had endeared many to me and they inturn called me Goddess. Those days are gone, though soon I hope to return to playing MORE with the players and less with myself (hhaha that sounded bad).

Script in parties if you must, party defend, hang on site, do what you must do to play but overall, enjoy. Make friends, make enemies, make mud babies, whatever, just play. Some of your worst enemies now could be your best friends later in the game.
