here is something I don't want to find
there is a small parcel of scrub out the back where I live, today I happened to be out there and stumbled upon this about 40 metres from the backyard  unfortunately I couldn't retrieve the skin in one piece, not sure how long it has been there, not too long though as it isn't brittle at all. going to give it too the niece to take to school.... man I hope I don't run into the bloody thing any time soon
here you can see where the eye was, top and bottom jaw
comes in at just on 5'8" probably a bit longer as it is not dead straight on the table
5'8" of scary big brown snake

Hi Coinshooter, big beautiful snake! Wow what a skin! That is one big brown snake. I don't think I've ever seen one that long. The skin sure makes an impression. It's the tigers and King browns I'd be a bit worried about. Do you have King browns where you live?

Yep they are well and truly out now Craig i would give the bushy and tall grass areas a miss from now on, not worth risking a snake bite.
That one must be a beaut to have seen in the flesh, with a pair of binoculars of coarse. Raoul

Ang, I live on the Murray about 50km (as the crow flies) from the SA/Vic border. we have tigers (don't see many of em), browns and king browns; though I'm not sure on the differences there.... we used to get a few red bellied blacks but haven't seen one for years, not that I'm complaining
