Just sold some gold!
Hey all, how's it going?
Last Saturday I decided to sell some gold jewelry I'd found water detecting, and hubby added a few tiny gold nuggets to the lot. After a some wheeling and dealing, hubby was able to negotiate a good price for the lot...$1000.00, for just over an ounce of gold, which included a few tiny gold nuggets and some 9ct and 18ct jewelry. I've put the money aside for a brand new Excalibur II for me. Hubby will now have his older Excal back. :D I'm hoping to pick it up in a few weeks time, and then the both of us will be able to detect together! I checked out the Excalibur II at Miner's Den in Mitchem; it's a little more lightweight with the lighter, thinner coil, and the yellow headphones are better, a tighter fit. our old Excal's blue headphones are much looser and the earpieces tend to come apart. Hopefully the newer detector won't have that problem.
I reckon now is a good time to sell any gold you might have accumulated from detecting, while the gold prices are up.
In case you're interested, the fellow we went to, to sell the gold was Bentleigh Jeweller's in Centre Rd. We ended up with $400.00 more than he originally would have given us after hubby shrewedly negotiated, but as the guy was willing to come to some agreement on price, we wouldn't mind going back to him again at a later date.
I can honestly say now that we've paid for the first Excalibur in our total finds, including coins and jewelry, from both water and sand detecting.
Angela
ps...off topic...we also saw the Pompeii exhibition in the Melbourne Museum, anyone else seen it? I thought it was great! :bean: :family:

Re: Just sold some gold!
Hi Andrew,
No, the jewelry didn't have any stones, just a few rings, one bracelet and around 5 tiny gold nuggets. Came in at just over an ounce of gold, but not all was pure, some 9ct, 18ct, and the gold nuggets were weighed as 23% pure gold content.

Re: Just sold some gold!
Thanks. Hubby has a few nice specimens that he detected a few years back, one has gold laced through quartz in particualr, and another he loves is gold laced through iron ore specimen, quite beautiful. The gold looks like tiny waves under a microscope, very detailed and intricate.
I'll let you know how i go with the new Excal. Hoping to pick it up within a few weeks, if not before.
