Garrett GTI 2500
Hi all, I haven't been on the forum for quite some time - Had to have a couple of knee replacements but back at it now. I have just purchased a Garrett GTI 2500 detector off ebay and I was wondering if anyone has had anything to do with them. It is as new and I tried it out for the first time today - found a 1919 penny & a 1943 threepence, both at 5". I would just like to hear some opinions on this machine.

Re: Garrett GTI 2500
Gidday Rocker53,
Good to hear you're out and about again. The coins are nice oldies too. I'm not personally familiar with your detector, but someone else might be able to help you here.
All the best with it. Angela

Re: Garrett GTI 2500
hey rocker,
nice work on the pre-decimals
I have a Garrett GTA1000  which is a much earlier version with less bells and whistles and had great success with it, paid for itself many times over when chasing the goldies  ($1 & $2 coins) with it; in fact I used some of the coins to purchase a Minelab Explorer and have to admit that I use that predominately but occasionally still use the Garrett, generally when the explorer gets to heavy (after a few hours) to use.

Re: Garrett GTI 2500
It's a great coin hunting unit for grass and park work, slightly weighty, but lessened by detachment of the battery pack or a strong arm.
Got more features than most users realise and make use of.
Ocean beach detecting is not it's strong point.

Re: Garrett GTI 2500
Hi, Rocker53,
I have been using a Garrett GTI 2500 since October 1999, I have found numerous coins, jewellery and artefacts with it, in all types of environments.
As Ivanll mentions, it has many features which can be selected with the touch pads.
When working with the standard 9.5” imaging coil at the beach, in wet sand, I lower the sensitivity to about 6 or 6.5, and then activate the Salt Elimination function, these settings work quite well without any appreciable loss of depth.
For the beach, my favourite coil is the 5” x 10” DD non- imaging coil, it is much lighter, and it can be run closer to the standard settings in wet sand, while using the Salt Elimination function.
I have four search coils, 9.5” and 12.5” Imaging concentric coils and two none-imaging; 5” x 10” DD and 10” x 14” DD.
Each coil is fitted with a lower plastic stem and a metal mid stem section, permitting quick, convenient changing of the set up to suit the job in hand.
I hope that an instruction book and an instructional video was provided with your machine, if not they are available and worthwhile to have on hand.
You may find it worthwhile to visit;

for a comprhensive field test of this machine.
Play with the machine in various environments, then let us know of your experiences with it.
Best Wishes and Happy Hunting!!!!!

Re: Garrett GTI 2500
Hi Mercury4,
Thanks for your info, yes I did get the manual but no DVD/Video. I am starting to like this unit, my only complaint is it's a bit weighty after a few hours of swinging. I went over to our local school yesterday which I have detected many times and thought I had cleaned it out but found a 1943 penny, a 1953 sixpence, a military forces button all around 4-5", nice clear signals. I will take ivanll advice and mount the battery pack on my belt and give that a try. I'm looking forward to trying it out on the beach and have taken note of your settings. Thanks for your reply.
Cheers,
rocker53

Re: Garrett GTI 2500
Hi ivanll,
Thanks for the reply and I will take your advice on the battery pack. I am starting to get the hang of it - a few more outings will help but it's raining here in East Gippsland at the moment, I hope it's gone by the weekend so I can get down to the beach at Lakes Entrance and give it a try.
Cheers,
rocker53

G'Day Angela,
Yes it's good to be back on the detector again and it's great to receive some very good replies on the forum. Happy detecting.

Re: Garrett GTI 2500
Hi coinshooter,
Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I will find enough $1 & $2 coins to pay for this unit as well. I think I got this at a very good price off ebay, it's in excellent condition - I paid $530.00 for it plus $18.00 postage. I was originally looking for a s/h Explorer or Quattro but no luck, anyway I'm happy with the Garrett so far.
Cheers for now,
rocker53
