First finds with Minelab Quattro
Hi all, I received my s/h Quattro yesterday, in good nick too. Included was Andy Sabish's Mastering the Minelab Quattro, so sat up in bed last night and had a good read. Only had an hour spare today so went across the road to an open paddock and had a quick go in "coins" factory preset - found 1 x 1952 penny, 1946 shilling and 2 x 2cent pieces, so I am quite happy with it. Tomorrow if weathers ok will try out our local school ground. Overall a nice machine.
Cheers,

Re: First finds with Minelab Quattro
That's great Rocker..sounds like you've gottten the hang of your new machine! One thing I did was to buy a few pre-decimal coins off a dealer, swip them under the coil and jot down the readings. Then by discriminating everything out except for the numerical readings for the coins...gave me an advantage in the coin mode. I saved that setting...it was fun to try out when I first bought my detector. I hit an old beach with very little trash and was surprised at the pre-decimals I found.... Nowadays I just use All Metal for everything...but you can experiment with your detector according to the different sites you like to work..see what works best for you at the time.

Re: First finds with Minelab Quattro
Hi Angela, Yes I did make up a chart of the readings for Pre-decimal and also decimal coins and done exactly as you have, discriminated everything out except for the readings of the coins and saved the setting - works well. I hope to get down to the beach soon and give it a try. The only thing I found a bit hard was the pinpointing but I'm getting better, just used to the concentric coils - the Quattro is a DD of course. I found by moving the coil forward and back in pinpoint mode, when the sound stops, the target is below the front edge of the coil. A few more outings and I should be right.
Cheers,
