MK 2 Straight shaft - Revised Balance Weights.

Hi, all.

Reference my earlier post, on the MK 2 version of my straight shaft; almost predictably, I managed to crack one of the small glass jars which contained some lead weights, used as balance weights.

At the local hardware shop I found some PVC plumbing fittings, which are very robust and happened to be of suitable dimensions to create some new balance weight containers.

These new containers consist of an adaptor with an internal thread and a matching threaded plug.

The threaded portion of the plug was reduced to 6 mm in length, so that it screwed conveniently into the body of the adaptor.

The open end of the adaptor was sealed off with a suitable plastic sink plug, secured in place with four pop rivets.

The lead weights were then re-calculated, to match the weight of the new PVC containers.

One of these modified plugs was then attached with pop rivets to the shaft in place of the original metal screw cap; this allows an easy interchange of balance weight containers, as was previously the case.

Two additional modified plugs are used to retain the lead weights inside the balance weight containers when these are removed from the shaft.

The pics illustrate the new system, which I am confident will be trouble free in use, however time will tell if this will be so!!!!!!!!!

Best Wishes, Brian.
