Hi all,
I'm a total Field Noob with MDing, but i've been reading a few forum posts and reviews on Metal Detectors and Detecting so as to prep myself for the hard yards..
I've always been interested in finding treasure since back when i was a wee lad... was always exciting to find the odd coin here and there, sometime enough to buy a bag of lollies
I'm in the process of purchasing a MD'er.. any tips and historical sights around in and around Syndey would be much received.
NOTE: i'm looking to purchase the X-terra 305, which I think is a great little beginners Metal Detector. and within my price range at the moment. anyone else using this detector?
thanks people.

Welcome to the forum Pull Tab!
There are a few detectorists here that use a Minelab X Terra..so you may hear from one of them. As to detecting sites around Sydney, I don't live in Sydney, but I've heard that beach hunting is quite good there. As to other historical sites, might take some research to find them. How about parks and reserves? Or footy grounds and ovals? Even near old railway stations currently unused, might turn out promising. Also, if you're near the beach, some night time hunting can be rewarding. Just need a head lamp.
Looking forward to your future posts!

welcome Pull Tab
the X terra's are great machines from all reports and you wouldn't go wrong with any particular model..... but the most important thing is that you get out there and use it....
as for detecting spots..... where ever people are/have been you will find coins and relics.... some places have been hit by lots of users but patience and good technique (swinging slow/low etc and sometimes a little luck!!!) will still see the goodies pop up.... if you have never detected you may well be surprised at how much there is to find out there with a metal detector and how great a thrill it is to unearth coins and relics
good luck and if you need in help these forums are a great friendly environment.
