Hi Angela,
Yes I'm from Vic, in the Werribee area. Where are you and what sort of detecting do you do? It would be great to find someone to have a swing with. I don't know any other detectorists.
Cheers,
Mike

Re: New Member - Mike in Victoria
Hello Mike,
I'm from Gippsland, east of Melbourne, and live in an old goldmining town. Have you ever been down this way? I own a Minelab Quattro, and do alot of relic/coin detecting in the old gold towns around here, and found some wonderful things with my machine. But when my hubby and I get away for a break, we go to the beaches from Inverlock, and work our way to Portsea through to Rye. We love doing beach detecting. He owns a Minelab Explorer 2. And we have a detecting friend down there who swings a Sovereign. But we sure wouldn't mind heading your way, or we could meet part way. I'm sure we could work something out down the line, if you like! I"ve done alot of fishing in years past, down your necks of the woods! (talking of the great ocean road!)
Cheers Angela

Re: New Member - Mike in Victoria
Hi again Angela,
Which town are you in? Sounds like you are in a detectorist's heven!! lol
My other hobby is my 4x4, and I visit the Walhulla area often. Great part of the world! I'm yet to do any real beach work. I generally detect at schools and sports ovals. I have a WW2 site I found a few years back. Its still good for a hand full of badges every time I go, so I've been spoilt!!
Yes, I'd love to meet up with you some day and hit a few sites. My detector is currently back with Minelab for a service, so I'll be out of action for a couple of weeks
Catch'ya later! Mike

Re: New Member - Mike in Victoria
THAT'S AMAZING!!!!!!! lol What are the chances? I was up there over New Year's Eve. I camped up at O'Tooles with my 2 sons and my 4x4 club. We came down to Walhalla for tea at the pub one night.
I haven't done the mine tour, but I promise to check it out next time I get across there ) You know I'm envious! What a wonderful place to live and work! Good luck to you. And a gold mine to play in as well!!!
On a serious note, I trust the recent fires didn't cause you any problems or losses?
I look forward to my next trip and we'll definitely catch up then.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: New Member - Mike in Victoria
Hello Mike,
We were away at christmas eve for 5 days detecting at the beach. We didn't have a problem with the bushfires, but we did have a smoke filled valley and some ash. All in all, everything's okay, thanks! So, if you camp at O'Tooles flat, you must know the area up north quite well. We like to go to Fulton's Creek, where the hut and bunk beds are. Do you know it?
As for the gold mine, I do enjoy playing in it! I love crawling through the ventilation shaft! 150m on a 1-10 grade to the surface! Anyway, hopefully we will meet one day when you come to camp, if not before!
Cheers Angela

Re: New Member - Mike in Victoria
Hi guys. you guys heard about the detecting comp in Wedderburn this year, in March 8 and 9? We went last year and it was terrific. It's held on the Labour Day weekend. Garry and I will be going in March.
If you want to find out more about it check out this website: www.wedderburnonline.net
Ph: 03 54943571 or 03 54943833
A nice chance to meet a few keen detectorists from around Victoria!
Angela
