Nice, Raoul! I'm going to the beach today, but no detector in hand....pity. Going on a motor bike ride with a couple of friends to Wilson's Prom, but I'll be dreaming of the potential targets in the sand.......mmmm.

Re: Pictures of Lortone Coin tumbling process NOW Complete.
Hi, Popeye and Raoul.
Many thanks for your helpful information concerning tumblers for coin cleaning.
Just over a week ago I bought a single barrel “Thumler” tumbler Model A-R1 Made in USA, priced at $250.00 from Shelley’s Lapidary Supplies in Adelaide (www.shell-lap.com.au).
I also bought a second barrel for $34.00 to speed up the cleaning process, initially using David’s method and ingredients, to remove serious tarnish from decimal coins. This method can be very aggressive, the coins need to be checked and the process not left too long.
I also purchased some 6mm pyramid shaped Plastic Media, these are impregnated with a fine silica cutting abrasive of which there are three grades and colours; Brown fine cut (coarse), Green extra-fine cut (medium), and White superfine cut (finishing).
I also bought some special tumbling soap powder for use with the media; half a teaspoon of powder and 2-3 tablespoons of water per barrel, media is selected according to the quality of finish required, ratio of media to items to be cleaned or polished is approx 1 item to 10 media (approx 20 coins per barrel).
I have found that badly tarnished decimal silver coins respond well to David’s formula, however they can have a dull surface appearance, if preferred, the “shiny” appearance can be restored using the second barrel filled with the brown media, after this treatment the coins regain their “as new” appearance.
Copper decimal coins respond in a similar fashion, using this two stage process.
Presently I am experimenting with pre-decimal coins, mainly copper Australian since 1911, more on this and Australian silver coins of similar age at a later time.
Instruction sheets for use of the cleaning Media and tumbling soap are available from Shelley’s.
Best wishes, Mercury4.
