Thanks Neilo and Davidco.
When I was a child I wanted to be superman, then as I grew into a teen I wanted to be a fireman, now I am an old man I want to be just like the two of you.
IS THAT GOOD ?????????

Re: Cleaning and disposal of coins
Mmm, what I do with my coins is this: I use a tumbler for some really badly discoloured ones, or just clean with soap and a soft vinyl scourer. I separate all my coins into differrent containers, 1c, 2c, 5c, 10, 20, etc. The ones the bank don't accept, I can use in the car wash. Once I've reached a certain amount, I cash the coins in for notes. Every now and then I shout myself to something, dive gear, clothes, whatever i fancy. Even bought some vegie seedlings for the garden once...

Re: Cleaning and disposal of coins
Tumbler arrived Yesterday. I cleaned 1 load last night, and am currently trying to get a bit better finish on them. They have been in for an hour with some plastic media with abrasive in it, It's only small stuff,8mm long x 1 1/2 mm diameter, and are looking slightly better, I'll keep checking.
When i put the load in yesterday afternoon, I went in a few times in the first couple of hours to see if it was working alright, then i left it for the next couple of hours. When i went out it had stopped going around. I pulled the cover off, and the belt had come off.The pulleys were a 1/4" out of alignment Simply fixed, and i tightened the belt as well.
I have a few days tumbling in front of me, as i have about $600 worth of coins, and $100 of it is silver, thank god I'm not turning a handle.
Thanks Davco for the pictures and " how to "
Bob

Re: Cleaning and disposal of coins
G'Day Mercury,The latest method of cleaning my Goldies is, 500 grms of the ceramic media, 1 1/2mm diam x 8mm long, and a teaspoon of GREEN washing powder. run for 2 hrs. I have'nt got enough silvers that need cleaning to do a batch yet, but will see how long they need with the same process. I bought this media when i got the tumbler, so i will use it up first
The first lot i did i used sand, but it took the shine off. i then put them in with the media for 2 hrs, and that made them look a bit better, so i will just try the media straight up next time and see how it goes.

Poker machine venues are good.Get the cashier to change them for good ones then walk out the door. Our local woolworths has counters where you serve yourself. I bought some stuff the other day for $35 paid for it in 20cent pieces. It took a while spat out a few really bad coins but I got rid of most of them. I still have about $40 of ten cents to get rid of yet that might take a bit longer. I went into our local bank with somebags of coins which I had counted and cleaned. The woman who was counting them asked me where I had got them, I told her metal detecting on beaches or parks. She looked at them as is they were poison and said they will have Dogs wee on them. I told her they were all washed in detegent but she was still not happy. I guess she was Peed off. seeya Neilo

Re: Cleaning and disposal of coins
HI Hungry1, Your bank has to take them by law , read below
The Royal Australian mint says , "Anyone with coins that are worn or damaged through normal use or accident should deposit these coins with their bank"
http://www.ramint.gov.au/about_ram/default.cfm?defaultPage=WornAndDamagedCoinPolicy.cfm
At my local Comm Bank They have a change counting machine(public access) , Place the coins on the belt and hit the button , it counts them then spits out a piece of paper , go to the counter and they give you the cash .
It rejects some coins , just wipe the sand off and put them back trough LOL.
If you are NON Comm bank customer there is a charge for changing it over.
Drew
And it wont Discriminate against colour
