Re: This is how i dig targets
I have to agree with Madmax on that score, sorry! You dont need to dig holes. Your probe will only pick up very shallow coins all of which can be removed by using a simple screwdriver. Plus the probe will pinpoint the target very accurately so the target would be very easily found.I have found and retrieved thousands of coins over the years using a probe and screwdriver. More and more parks are becoming off limits to detector operators, this has been caused by people doing damage to park areas digging needless holes. I have adopted the policy in park areas of, if the probe wont pick it up it is too deep to dig rather than do damage chasing deeper targets. I think this is a policy all detector operators should adopt. seeya Neilo

Re: This is how i dig targets
That's a good suggestion Garry, The forum is ideal for this sort of info sharing I will have a chat to Neilo & see if a short video could be posted for everyone to share. I am not up with how to post it but am happy to help put something together.
PS we all had to start somewhere & I have seen some real shockers when out detecting, so best practices should always be encouraged.
Happy Hunting

Davidco
I could help out to make this video. I can bring my camera along and we could make video of the probe and screwdriver method. Just let me know when and how.

Re: This is how i dig targets
would there be any interest in creating a technical (or tips?) forum to post things like what this thread covers?
such things as digging techniques, tools, coin cleaning, detector reviews by users, probes (sunray etc)
that way all the help/info type threads can be in the one forum (easy to find) rather than being mixed up with finds etc like it is in this general forum now...
PS sorry to sort of hi-jack the thread
