E Trac VS Explorer 2 I'm with you David, looks like the explorer still rules over the later model.
Whats the use of having a detector with 4 numbers and a 12 line if you cant trust or rely on 2 of them.
At least the explorer has consistent numbers. We have some experienced operators here that have said publicly you cant go by the numbers, you need to go by sounds.
I think Minelab should explain to us Etrac users whats going on .
Can I get others views on these 2 detectors, I may then ask Minelab to explain.
Re: E Trac VS Explorer 2 Madone
You should have stuck with the explorer. I think the e-trac has too many bells and whistles. It might be a good detector, But whats the point if it's too complicated to use or understand.

Re: E Trac VS Explorer 2 I have been using Explorers since they were released and now have the Etrac. I must admit that my finds have definately gone backwards since I changed over. The Etrac is a good machine but you have to detect in a different manner to the Explorer. My finds are gradually improving as I become more accustomed to the machine whether I will eventually do better than when I used the Explorer remains to be seen. There are a few things which I have found that are critical when using the Etrac. Slow down, swing slowly, use noise cancel, make sure you are not overpowering your machine, too much power and you will miss shallow coins, especially in mineralised areas. Dont use a narrow disc pattern, the discrimination area on the Etrac is broader than the Explorer and you can easily disc out good targets. On the Explorer 90per cent of $2 coin is usually 7ferrous -26 conductivity or 7-27. the other 10 percent usually deeper or on edge the number can vary. The Etrac has more numbers on the screen and the shallow $2 coin can read from 12-36 to 12-39. But if deeper can vary from 12ferrous to 16ferrous but the conductivity numbers will stay between 36-39. Coins on edge will come out at higher numbers on both machines as they cannot be identified accurately. The variable tone id on both machines is a big plus, I have had coins which gave a good accurate tone ID but looking at the screen the number didnt match the tone. Yet when I dug the target the tone Id was correct. The digital display on both machines is as they say only an indication of what the target is, and is not to be taken as gospel. So as they say if it sounds good dig it. The big pluss for me with the Etrac is the weight and balance it is much more comfortable to use I am able to use it for a longer time without too much fatigue. would I sell it NO!
