Re: Fear or a Rush?

Hi Poddymullet. The question of "will our device repel a shark in full attack mode " is commonly asked and difficult to answer.
As I stated previously, in all of ours and Natal Sharks Board testing, we have found that it did, (100%) Having said that, when you are dealing with such an unknown creature, particularly the Great White, it is obviously impossible to give a guarantee under all conditions and situations.
What we have impressed upon the user is that the unit must be switched on and deployed at all times so that a shark in its investigative mode gets hit and then departs and this is exactly what we have found in field testing and more importantly the feedback from users.
Sharks have survived because they have adapted and most importantly they are extremely cautious. The unique wave form from Shark Shield actually causes great distress to the shark. The shark must leave the area to the outer perimiter of the field,
our experience shows they depart and leave the area, this is actually good conditioning to change the sharks behaviour.
As previously posted, all of our testing is carried out under the worst posible situation with large Great Whites.
The real benefit of a Shark Shield is not in its ability to deter sharks, (it does that extremely well), but rather the new dimension it gives by "Peace of Mind"
Every user states just that.

Re: Fear or a Rush?

G'day Phil,

As I am planning to visit some areas that Tigers may frequent during this coming Summer it looks like I could become an "early adopter" in SEQ so please check your e-mail.

Regards,

Ross

What would be the best place to set the Shark Shield up on a kayak.

The antenna on the Freedom units (which is about 1.8m long & tapers from 20mm dia. down to about 10mm dia.) has 2 electrodes incorporated in it that are about 300mm long. There's one down at the tip & another that starts about 300mm below the top of the antenna. It's important that these are both in the water to set-up the field that repels the sharks.

I did some testing last weekend with various options & found that on a sit-on it works really well if you can shove the antenna down through a scupper hole as it gets all the antenna in the water. The antenna is flexible so while paddling along it bends & sits about 300mm below the surface of the water.

You could keep the main unit in the tankwell & hang the antenna over the side but this may cause the top electrode to not be fully in the water while moving along.

On a sit-in it's best if you can mount the main unit off the side of the kayak & as close to the waterline without being in it to again ensure the top electrode is in the water.

You could also use the same method on a sit-on if the scupper hole method isn't practical.
