Could get messy
Ok guys, without trying to start a debate, could I have some pro's and con's from those out there who use the following models.
1. Perception Swing
2. Ocean Kayak Prowler
I will be using it in Estauries, large rivers, and ocean work.
Thanks

Re: Could get messy
Goodaye James, thats what you call a win win situation where you win no matter what you buy. I love my prowler but have never paddled a swing so i can't comment. Sussing out the US sites people rate the prowlers very highly
I think you will struggle to find someone that has had both a prowler and a swing as i reckon once you have one you would keep it as they both seem to rate really highly on the US sites as far as owner satisfaction goes.
Look at the people like billbob, he paddles heaps of kms, catches amazing fish, could paddle anything but paddles a swing, it has to tell you how good they are.
Ya can't go wrong son, flip a coin. My 2 cents worth is though that no matter what you get, go the rudder option, when you have to paddle sideways to the wind, swell you can still have a nice even paddle stroke. Its also good for a controlled drift alongside structure in an estuary enviroment.

Re: Could get messy
Yes, it is a very dodgy topic, I had a look at the "Hooked on Kayaks" web site in particular the Hok Swing. The price is unbeatable considering all that you get with it.I have used the Swing before, and have full intentions of getting one, but I have noticed the huge numbers of people using the Prowler and thought I would look into that as an option. The problem is though, I have also fallen for that little green Hok Espri Package!!!! GOD I LOVE KAYAKS!!! I just need the funding to support my addiction to them and fishing. Keep the pros and cons coming in though, I would like to hear them all

Re: Could get messy
Phil (a.k.a. 'YakMan') owned a Swing & sold it to buy a Prowler. He'd be the best one to get an opinion from.

Re: Could get messy
James,
Any reason you've left a T140 or T160i off your short list?

Re: Could get messy
Thats the Tarpons I presume??? No reason really, just looking at what most use.(and I am a bit of a perception nut) Have just gotten off Phils site though, that Napali 470 looks like what I am after, a sleek fast ocean/touring vessel. Has anyone used these? And Phil, will these be coming as a "fishing package" or can you fit rod holders and sounders to these ok? decisions decisions....

Re: Could get messy
Yes, they're the Tarpons. The Napali certainly looks nice. I looked at one at Rosco's a few days ago. I don't know how they'd go fitting out for fishing - I didn't give it a lot of thought.
For a "fast ocean/touring vessel" it would be hard to go past either the T160i or Prowler 15. I you want to switch from plastic to fibreglass there are some interesting South African vessels.
