Bootie Stink

G day all, What are people using on neoprene booties/gloves to get over bootie stink? A dive shop bloke recommended I use bodywash, I'm not unhappy with this but was wondering if there were better alternatives? emoticon

Re: Bootie Stink

I always wash mine in fresh water & let them dry outside where they get some sun on them. In summer, 1 day is enough but in winter 2-3 days.

Re: Bootie Stink

Years ago I read about hikers using bicarb soda to get rid of the smell in their boots.

Does it work? A relative of mine had a small upright freezer full of fish, sitting on a carpeted floor. You can imagine what happened when there was a power failure. After trying various products and still having fishy carpet I suggested she try bicarb soda and it worked.

It may be enough just to store them with an open packet of bicarb soda.

I hose mine out with fresh water after every trip, hang 'em upside down for a couple of hours to drip dry, then leave them out in the full sun for the rest of the day.
Sunlight kills the bacteria that causes the smell.
Every two or three months I give them a soak in a solution of hot water and Dettol.

Thanks for the tips gents, I'll give them a run in my booties and the back of my car. emoticon

As for your personal hygeine code Rod, I was aware you'd adopted these loose morals for your jocks etc but thought your fishing gear took a higher priority. I really do think your father-in-law is going to Weipa, and Weipa some more, on your upcoming fishing adventure emoticon
