Lake Wivenhoe 19 Aog 05
Hi All,
Been a bit quiet lately due to wedding plans getting close, decided to check out Wivenhoe after midday knockoff.
Travelled about 18km all up today, around and very close to Platipus cliffs, hard work to get the yak on the roof racks this afternoon. Managed 2 good bass, not huge but solid fish. The first took a trolled Strike Zone Cicada that has a bib that you can adjust the depth by the 4 hole in the bib. Got the bass in 25 ft of water trolling a rocky bank.
The second bass was a better fish, 45cm that took a liking to my Trolled jackall Tn-70 pictured also in the same area.
I caught 2 catities, one a good fish, 50cm+ that was fouled hooked. Also manged to foul hook a bony bream trolling through the schools of bait.
Ross , if you see this before tomorrow, there is plenty of schools of bait in logans inlet . Finf the creek beds(drop offs and you will find the bait. Theer should be active feeding bass not to far away. Try dropping a plastic down in the school and jig around. I used trolling today to locate fish then cast the area to see if there were fore active fish about.
Cheers
Aaron

Re: Lake Wivenhoe 19 Aog 05
G'day Aaron,
I missed your post last night but thanks for the suggestion. As it turned out I only trolled today - was planning to "jig" but it was too windy for me to keep the "jig" in the sounder cone.
You ended up with a better result yesterday than I did today but I did get a 49cm Yella - see the picture under "Fishing Reports".
Mate, get as much fishing in as you can before you get married as, once you're hitched, the frequency often reduces.
Regards,
Ross

Re: Lake Wivenhoe 19 Aog 05
Hi Aaron,
Can you tell me more about your trips to Wivenhoe? I was keen on getting access to the dam away from Logan's Inlet. Have you been to Billie's Bay? Can you launch a kayak from Branch Creek? I guess the wind can be a problem with the large area of water so I was keen to find a more protected spot.

Re: Lake Wivenhoe 19 Aog 05
Hi Glen,
You can launch at 2 public spots at the dam. The first is logans inlet and the second haymond cove. I have launched from branch creek when the dam was fuller but would be a mission now. You can launch from bilies bay but rewuire to be a member of the brisbane valley sail club to get access.
You are better to use logans and fish the deep water out in front of logans, plenty of bait in the area. The bass should be starting to school up again but the bass behave differently to other dams. Right now they are scattered, in shallow and deep.
Remember you need a stocked permit as well. It is a big dam and if the wind picks up and can be dangerous and big white caps, not so scary in a yak bit small tinnies have been caught out at times.
If you have more q dont hesitate to ask. I will prob be out there again this fri afternoon if the wind is not to strong.
Cheers
Aaron
