Re: Saturday 13-8-05 anyone keen on an afternoon session?
Milt,
It looked like a nice day.
Pitty you didn't hook-up.
Were you using the SP's or bait?

Re: Saturday 13-8-05 anyone keen on an afternoon session?
Using SP's and a baited jig on second rod for squid. I managed 1 under size pinkie and got busted off by a nice couta. Jason did ok a couple of pinkies and 4 small squid which I cooked up last night I might add.
Next time around, the second rod will be loaded up with bait so as to almost guarantee some bread and butter stuff like flathead to take home a feed.

Re: Saturday 13-8-05 anyone keen on an afternoon session?
Hi Milt,
things were quiet for me until I finally drifted over to the small drop-off that Rod picked up last time on his sounder. Then the action started so I threw out the anchor. I tried to wave you over but I couldn't attract your attention. I will email a rough map of the location to you.
The 3" pumkinseed power minnows worked a treat but I lost a few jig heads due to the 'couta.
I would consider a marine radio to help our communication out on the water. I'm not sure what the other Melbournites think.
Regards
Grant

Re: Saturday 13-8-05 anyone keen on an afternoon session?
Grant,
Yes we must work out a signalling system maybe a prank call on the mobile possibly. I'm going to place my phone in my life vest rather than in the hull next time around. Or a couple of flashes with the torch at dawn or dusk. Whatever the case look forward to many more trips after October. Do you keep what you catch? If not I might get you to hang on to your fish for me.
Regards Milt

Re: Saturday 13-8-05 anyone keen on an afternoon session?
I have been looking at options for signalling. If you are going to carry your phone make sure you have an aquapac or something similar. I dropped my phone in the water earlier this year & it didn't survive.
Its a shame that Push to Talk hasn't taken off. I reckon that a bluetooth enabled mobile with PTT would be a good handsfree communication method.
Not a problem hanging on to the catch for you. I am allowed to go fishing on the condition that I only ever to bring home flathead fillets.
Regards
Grant

Re: Saturday 13-8-05 anyone keen on an afternoon session?
For an el-cheapo signalling solution what about a couple of blasts of a whistle. Ideally you should have a whistle on your PFD for safety anyway & they only cost a $'s.
If you do go this way don't use 3 blasts as that's the distress signal.

Poddy the special didn't get a run probably a bit shallow there to risk loosing them. I'll phone you today re dropping off your spare paddle.
Grant I'll bring the filleting knife next time just bring along a tupperware container to keep the fillets in. I have water proof sack i store my mobile in, so long as i can hear it this should be adequate.

I like the whistle idea. Simple but effective
