Jacobs Well 23-24 July

The Southern Brisbane Sports Fishing Club is conducting a fish tagging weekend in the Jumpinpin area. This is a Suntag major activity. There are two members who use kayaks. I have a hobie outback and will be camping on Saturday night at the Jacobs Well caravan park. Anyone is welcome to join us for some good social activity and hopefully good fishing in the area. I plan on launching after lunch saturday and then again early sunday morning. I've never fished the area before so will troll down the river and towards Jumpinpin.

Welcome to the forum Rambo Will Image

Hopefully some members from up your way will take up your invitation to join you.

Would you please include your location (just a general one, not your full street address) into your profile so we can all see where you are from whenever you make a post. Instructions on how to do this are in the 'help' area.

You might also like to take the time to create your signature (you can just use your username if you don't want to use your real name) & as part of your signature, tell us what kayak/s you have. It makes you posts feel a lot more 'personal' & lets everyone know what you paddle. Instructions on how to do this are also in the 'help' area.

Hi Rambo Will
Welcome to the forum
How long have you been using the hobie outback and what do you think of it.
With a bit of luck I can get there to have a chat.

Re: Jacobs Well 23-24 July

I've had the Outback since July last year. I was hooked after taking one for a test drive. I joined the fishing club so I get out once a month. Fortunately the club is social more than competition. I was put onto the forums by the guy who sold me the kayak and they have some great information on mods to make fishing even better.
The outback is a great fishing platform but is not a good as some in surf - but for long distance or hands free it can't be beaten. My whole family loves it so I intend to get a second later this year.

Re: Jacobs Well 23-24 July

Had a late night so rather than head 1.5hrs to Kingscliff with some of the others, I thought I'd try Jacobs Well and say gday. Where were you?

I ended up having one of my best days on the flatties. Ended up getting 6 over 40cm best going 60cm. Took 4 home for a feed for the family. Also managed a few Pike which destroyed some plastics, and had some good bites and follows. The big flattie scared the crap out of me taking the lure as I was lifting it out of the water beside the yak.

A very good spot and somewhere I will be fishing regularly as it is only 20minutes from home.

On the way home I stopped at Jacobs Well store for a pie and a drink and I noticed your( I think it was yours) Hobie on your car in the caravan park. I went over to say hi but there was no-one around, maybe another day.

See ya.

Hope you kept the Pike for troll baits Gerard.
The Spaniards and Snapper find them hard to resist and they swimm well and look good on the Spaniard/Snapper Special.
Just remember to break the vertebrae all the way along to get them swimming with a bit of action.

Yeh Bill. I thought he might be OK for the SS. I might have to invest in the larger model, he was about 4-500mm.

Any luck up your way lately?

Re: Jacobs Well 23-24 July

Sorry I missed you.

On Sunday other members of the club strongly asked me to fish from their boat so I only got in late PM on Saturday on the kayak. Had a good day with about 40 fish caught, about half were tagged and all were released. Best was a 50cm flathead. I will certainly get back their again. Our next trip is the flathead tagging weekend 20/21 August. The hobie continues to get noticed when you power off from the beach and I found another tyre kicker when I launched who is strongly looking at kayak fishing so that was a win.

Re: Jacobs Well 23-24 July

Gday Ross.
I thought you must have hitched a ride on Sunday. Was that 40 fish for you or 40 for the club? Its good to see the tagging happening, I wonder do many people reply with the relative info? Still nothing wrong with keeping some for the BBQ though. The flathead I kept were beeeuuutifull!

I was only able to stay out for about 3 hours on Sunday(brownie points are a bit low at the moment!), so I think a return trip this Saturday might be on the cards.
