posticon NSW South Coast (Malua Bay) - Mon 15th - Sun 21st

For up to date details, please see my last posting under this topic. Thanks!

Costal trip for those in and around Canberra. Chasing Kingies, salmon, tailor, grouper and what ever else is on the chomp! emoticon
Barling's Beach is a nice caravan park on the beach north of the Tomakin headland with options for tent/caravan/cabin.
I am also interested in taking a couple of days off before the weekend if anyone else wants to make it a long weekend. emoticon
Let me know if you're keen!
I'm always keen!

Re: Barling's Beach - Tomakin Weekend of August 20th

I can probably make that, but I will have to get a wetsuit first though!

The Tomakin river is also a really good option - it was declared a recreational fishing haven a few years back, and the increase in fish has been amazing! Also less chance of ending up in New Zealand if the weather turns nasty.

Re: Barling's Beach - Tomakin Weekend of August 20th

Hey guys,

This trip is looking pretty good. Outside of the forum I have been running into other yak fisherman and it looks like we'll be looking around the 7 people mark at this stage.
Cormorant, I have recently bought some thin rain coat pants from Workin' Gear in Fyshwick ($28) which provide all the protection I need when put over thermals or trackies - much cheaper than wet suit pants.
I have the week leading up to the trip off so will be heading down Wednesday morning to 'christen the waters' emoticon I know others will be coming either Thursday or Friday night so don't feel you have to come down any particular time. Also, feel free to spread the word with and yakkers outside the forum - the more the merrier!
Catch you all soon.

Re: Barling's Beach - Tomakin Weekend of August 20th

I am not quite game to head out past the breakers until I have a little more experience, but I will definitely be checking out the Tomakin River! You never know - it the seas are calm and look to stay that way I might have a go.

There is a lot of river, and a lot of snags to fish to, so I think that there will be plenty of water to go around!

Thanks for the tip on the waterproof pants - I will have to give that one a go!

Re: Barling's Beach - Tomakin Weekend of August 20th

Hey Cormorant. Good to hear from you.
No worries on the going seaward thing. I doubt we'll go far - just out into the bay area I expect. I'm a big fan of only doing what you feel comfortable with when it comes to the ocean. I reckon there will be a few who will want to keep to the rivers due to experience, yak size etc. The big advantage in that is we will end up with a range of fish for dinner emoticon
A few of those coming have also purchased some head lamps for a spot of night fishing which should be good. I've hooked many a salmon off Barling's Beach this time of year and there's always something interesting to catch in the rivers at night (usually eels emoticon )
Have fun buddy and I'll send out an email to everyone who's coming in the next couple of weeks.

Re: Barling's Beach - Tomakin Weekend of August 20th - Now Long Beech

Hi guys,

Daniel and I have been looking around for appropriate accommodation. We couldn't find anything in Tomakin but have a great big house on Long Beech (just north of the bay). It has a couple of fridges gate access to the back yard for the yaks and is close to the beech. I think we'll ask everyone who wants tp stay (plenty of room for everyone) to chip in something like $35 a night.

Daniel and I will be getting there on Wednesday the 17th of August and staying till Sunday the 21st. I will post an address to everyone who's confirmed once I have it.

We can still fish at Tomakin (and most likely will at some stage) and areas like Durras Burril and now more in reach if anyone wants to try them.

Have fun!

Re: Barling's Beach - Tomakin Weekend of August 20th - Now Long Beech

G'day Phil,

I certainly have. I've been on to Daniel and Jay (borther in-law/his girlfriend) for weeks. Hopefully there will be some discussion on the trip with Cormac and Shad which will convert a few.

Have fun!
