Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Hi Scupper,
Welcome... glad you got the registration thing worked out
I'm sure membership will slowly pick-up as word gets out. I have been in touch with the webmaster of a popular kayak fishing site in Qld. & he has offered to make an announcement on his site sometime soon so I'm hoping that will help too.
This thing is gonna be fun

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Hi all,
Just found this site via a link from the Kayak Fishing in SEQ site. I am new to Kayaks and Fishing in general. Was looking for a summer sport for me & my son. We race dirtbikes during the winter months and dont like riding during the hotter months. Bought my self a Dagger Cayman a couple of months ago thinking that it would be a good way to lose a few kilo's as well spend some quailty time with my boy.Unfortunatly I havnt really been able to spend much time in it. I also bought a small "ocean" kayak for my son and so far we have been content to just get out and paddle in our local creek. Havnt had the chance to do any fishing as yet. I have fitted a couple of flush mount rod holders and some yakima footrest to the boats and am looking forward to getting out over the next couple of weeks and trying our luck. I look forward to getting heaps of tips from you more experienced guys and sharing some info and ideas. I would also be keen to hook up with any of you from SEQ, even if just to tag along and learn as I go.
Cheers Saab :-)

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Hi Phil,
Congratulations on the new forum. As you may deduce from saab's comments I've finally got my computer up and running again and been able to update my web site with a link to this forum.
You've got to love this time of year in SE Queensland. A few nice thunderstorms and power surge curtesy of Energex and I lost a hard drive and my home DVD player
Still, I'd rather be here with the warm water, Mangrove Jacks, Mackerel, and Mud Crabs, than back down south. Although Queensland whiting don't compare to KGW...

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Hi Tony,
Welcome aboard & thanks for the kind words.
Queensland sure is great environment for kayaking. I went on a moring kayak & snorkeling trip wiyh my kids when we were up at the Gold Coast in early November & it was just magic.
I really hope we'll all be able to foster a real community here.

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
G'day Saab,
Welcome to the forum
I think the Dagger Cayman is a nice boat & might make a really good fishing platform. I'd love to get the chance to have a play with one one day but you know how it is... "Too many kayaks, too little time".
It's great to hear you are getting out with your kids too. The time I spend paddling with my son & daughter, and the time my son & I spend kayak fishing together is just the best.
Don't be afraid to ask any questions & also don't be afraid to tell us what you have done. We can all learn from each other.

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Hi Phil,
Great to see an aussie forum for yak fishing.
Thanks for setting it up.
I am only new to this sport and have bought a Cobra Explorer to get started.
I have been checking the US sites and just finished a trolley like the Quietman built.
Not sure about the signature thingy, but will continue to persevere on these dam machines until I get it loaded.
I fish out of Coffs Harbour, floating baits for snapper and bream, spinning for pelagics and livebaiting for mackeral.
If any yakkers post from the North Coast of NSW near Coffs, can you get them to contact me.
Regards
Ray

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Welcome Ray
Don't worry about being new... kayak fishing hasn't been happening down here for very long so we are all kinda new at it. It's just that some of us are newer than others !
I'm not sure if we have any members from Coffs Harbour way so the best thing would be to post a topic in the 'Main' forum asking if anyone is in your neck of the woods.
John Roe, a.k.a Quietman is a bit of a legend, eh. There's lotsa guys using Explorers in the U.S. so you are bound to find lots of pictures if you need ideas on how to fit your kayak out.
If you don't have any luck with the signature let me know & I'll try to help.

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Gday to everyone.
This sport is very addictive and very social. Through it I have met and fished with Poddymullet down in Melbourne, and also with Yaker up in QLD when on holiday. Not to mention talking via email to varius other like minded fisho's.
My family and I now live in SEQLD, and I look forward to fishing with other kayakfishers here.
Hopefully I will be able to offer some tips or at least some contributions to this site. I have also added it to my favorites and will visit regularly.
I paddle an Ocean Kayak 'Scupper Pro' fitted with rod holders and depth sounder. However if anyone can tell me what to glue the transducer to the hull with I would be very gteatful. The 5 minute liquid nails is "****E".
Best wishes to all,
Gerard.

Gerard.

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Hi Shoey
I have attached my transducer by cutting a piece of rubber matting, about 1 inch thick and hollowing it out to match the shape of the transducer. I placed the rubber mat inside the yak and put a big glob of Vaseline inside it and squished the transducer inside it. It is not permanent and does not require messy glues. I don't know...works for me.
Cheers
Simon

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'
Hi Phil, you might remember me - we made contact via the US site late last summer - just after I had caught my first spottie on Palm Reef, Gold Coast. Congratulations on starting this forum - and best of luck with the business (which I presume is a new venture for you). It is really great to see a dedicated Aussie kayak fishing discussion forum - and it can only be a help to new and experienced anglers. Tony's web site has been a great vehicle for linking us up, here in SE Queensland - and I am sure things will really gain mommentum now. Several weeks ago 7 of us got together at Victoria Point early one morning - and paddled around Coochiemudlo Island. Good fun. I must say I am jealous of the guys in Sydney, with their club and regular fishing comps. It must be a great help for newbies (like myself) who are just starting out. Especially for those who have not had any real fishing experience (like myself again).
I have just come back from a week in Noosa and, as always, got tons of help from Bill. I went out to Jew Shoal (4 or 5 ks off main beach) three times for an early morning fish - hoping to land my first spaniard. One of the guys got a 6.4 kg spaniard on New Years Day, but I had no such luck - they are still a bit thin on the ground. There were three kayakers on the water - the two "locals", Bill and James, and myself. James can be seen with his spaniard on the Monday fishing report on www.fishingnoosa.com.au All I got was a lot of heckling from the drunken revellers (5:00AM) hanging off the balcony at the Lifesaving Club. They were yelling at me to stay between the flags! Needless to say they all found this very witty and amusing! The following morning when I got there at 4:00AM there were two guys strolling nonchantly down Hastings Street - wearing nothing but hats!
On the last morning I was on the water at 4:15AM and it was certainly a new experience for me heading out into the middle distance in semi darkness! Especially as I had to go back to the unit to collect the pillies I had left on the dining room table - and as a result was the last to go. Anyway, although the fishing was not great - it was a real privilege to be out on the ocean with the turtles and dolphins and watching the sun come up. Even if you don't catch something, there are always new experiences to be had. Much of the rest of the holiday was spent paddling around the Noosa River with the kids - catching (and releasing) small bream.
