G Day Shoey, good to see you made here. Looking forward to some of those tales of big "pylon hiding" bream and others.

Hi Ya Redro, not sure if it's my place to welcome you onboard as I've only been here 30 seconds myself , but welcome anyway.

Welcome Shoey emoticon

There are loads of methods to secure the transducer to your hull. Simond11's 'foam & vaseline' method is widely used & proven.

Personally, I use 24hr 'Araldite' epoxy.

Not all glues will work as they either contain minute air bubbles (which upset the sonar signal) or do not allow the sonar signal to pass through well.

If you use Araldite:

1).. Roughen the area with coarse sandpaper.
2).. Clean it really well using metho.
3).. Make a well out of plasticene to containg the glue.
4).. Mix the glue VERY SLOWLY (to minimise the amout orf air you stir in) in a clear container so you can see when it is just mixed.
5).. Pour the mixed glue into the well SLOWLY.
6).. Let the pool of glue sit for 5 mins to let any trapped air rise to the surface.
7).. While waiting, roughen & clean the base of your transducer.
8).. Push your trans. into the glue by lowering in the back edge first, then rolling it forward until the trans. is flat against the hull. This will help push any trapped air out from underneath.
9).. Weigh the trans. down for 3-4 days while the glue sets. I use a bag of damp sand that weighs about 1kg. Use more weight rather than less as the trans. may lift up & trap air if it is not really well held down.
10).. I let the whole thing sit un-disturbed for another 3-4 days before I use the kayak, just to make sure it's all set.

Hi Nick,

Of course I remember you... Welcome aboard emoticon

I kinda thought Australia was ready for it's own forum but I did not think it would have come this far in just a few short weeks.

13 members & over 120 posts has shown that we were indeed ready & that kayak fishing has a big future down here. Tony's support from his S.E. Queensland website has been very welcome & has really helped get this forum moving.

My business is an after-hours, part-time affair for me at the moment but I'm getting fantastic support from all my suppliers & quite a bit of interest from customers so maybe one day it'll be big enough to be full-time. I sure hope so !

G'day Phil,

Seeing as Tony (aka Yaker) recommended your site I thought I'd better follow his link and join up. It is good to see, however, that a few other Bananabenders have already beaten me to it.

It seems this site is off to a great start and already filling a much needed niche for Australian Kayak Fishers - please keep up the good work.

Regards,

Ross

Welcome Meoldchina emoticon

I'm truly amazed at how quickly this forum has progressed & the enthusiasm being shown by all the members.

If you are still having trouble posting pics please take a look in the 'forum help' section for an explanation of a pic posting system I know will work.

Re: Welcome to the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum, brought to you by 'Hooked On Kayaks'

Hey Mariner,
I am new to this , glad to find a place where kayak fishers exchange ideas.
I am at Maleny and fish inshore at Baroon dam ( bass ) and the Bribie Passage ( flatties, whiting).
Paddle a wooden yak which I designed and built specifically for fishing( but I do have a tandem synchro ) . The boat is very stable , so i don't fall out; and is rigged for spin casting and flyfishing, and I use a finder in the canals/dams to find the holes where they hide in.
At the moment the dam is 6m down but the bigger bass are way down. Some green alge has started up also.
So I am looking forward to meeting up with some fishers who like me go for the inshore piscatorials ( sound like rex).

Yibbada Yibbada... Welcolm to the forum Eugene emoticon

You might be new to the internet forum idea but it sounds like you have a lot of experience fishing from different paddle craft. I'd sure be interested in seeing a pic of your wooden kayak if you would be able to post one.

If you don't mind would you please take the time to include your location in your profile & maybe write your signature file to mention the kayaks you use. That way this information is included in every post you make & it helps all the members get to know you better. Instructions on how to do this (along with creating your own avatar if you'd like to use one) are on the 'Forum Help' page

Hi Phil,

Thank you for the words of advice. When I figure how all things work I should be able to handle things better, I hope. Meantime I will email an image of the yak.
