Rigs for trolling
Hi all
I was wondering about information on trolling rigs for the ocean. I fish on the ocean aound the Eastern suburbs (Bondi, Clovelly, Coogee etc.) and I am currently using RMG Scorpions that dive to about 8mts, as I fish in 30 metres of water. So far I have had no hits. I read on the forum BillyBob was using a type of rig that was quite succes.
Any help to increase my cathes would help!!
Cheers
Simon

Re: Rigs for trolling
Mate rig a squid to troll and troll the headlands from South Head to Bondi. In season the kings will love you, all you have to do is too land them. Keep in real close to the rocks, i like my squid to be skirting the edges of the wash as this is the prime location for kings. If you are unsure how to rig the squid have a look in Yakman's lures that troll well thread.

Re: Rigs for trolling
Mate another simple one that works well on kings, bonnies ect is a whole gar on a set of gangs. Add a small plastic squid skirt with a small ball sinker in it running down to the hooks and you have got another good rig for kings. Just be careful of the extra hooks in the gang rig when tring to unhook a struggling kingfish on your lap.

Re: Rigs for trolling
G'day Simon.
Been away up the Whitsundays so just saw your post.
The rig we use, the 'Spaniard Special', is a variation on the Squid skirted troll rig.
The advantage it has over a basic troll rig, however, is that it has higher visibility (from the spinner blades) and tracks extremely well, even if the fish bait is pinned slightly off centre.
Having said that, there's nothing wrong with a basic troll rig, it'll certainly get you fish... I just believe in giving myself every 'edge' possible.

Re: Rigs for trolling
Hi Billbob
Thanks for the reply. I would be interested in trying one of the Spaniard Specials you talk about. Can I get them in Sydney or through you?
Cheers

Re: Rigs for trolling
Hi Simon,
Details of where you can get one of Billy's SS lures is in this post.
I rang Davo's on a Saturday, gave them a VISA card number & the SS arrived the following Thursday in the mail. Great service !
