Re: Lures that troll well from a kayak.
hey bent,
whe you do the squid rig what are you using to tie the hood of the squid to the main line (so it doesn't slip down the main line).
Are you using like 2 kg mono or something like that or a thread like bait mate?
Do you not put a second hook on the rig ever?
thanks for the help mate!

Re: Lures that troll well from a kayak.
Hey Gatsie, How's it going mate. Sorry about how long it took me to respond to this but i have been studying my ring off for my mid year exams for the last month (what posessed me to become a mature age student?)
Anyway i only ever use one hook these days. I always used to use 2 but would always hook up on the bottom hook as the fish always nail the squids head first.
The second hook was un-neccessary and made the rig dangerous when it came time to unhook a a good fish that still had a bit of a wiggle left in it.
I use flat waxed rigging thread that you can get from a any decent tackle shop. Just make sure that the hood is tied tightly to your trace and wont slide along it. A small amount of slack is neccessary to stop the bait from bunching up when trolled.
Catch ya Bent

Re: Lures that troll well from a kayak.
nothing wrong with being a mature age student. I start my CA soon so will a similar effect on my ring (cramming my arse off) leading up to November when my first exam is.
thanks for the help - appreciate it. makes sense regarding the the potential dangers of the second hook - green fish, bare skin and large hooks are not really a good combination in any language.
Have been looking at the prowler 13 recently as it has just arrived in the country and will hopefully out there soon.
cheers again
