Daiwa procyon.... and a great tackle shop
It seems that there's a growing preference amongst yak fishers towards longer rods whereas I have been fishing with a 6'6" procaster-s and now picked up a a procyon 5'6" because every time I have to thread the line through the tip guide, or just reach to the tip to clear a tip wrap I end up inadvertently dunking the reel, which I really hate doing. How do you guys get around this problem?
I also just wanted to share a recent experience with you. I got the new procyon last week at Amazon on the Horsley Drive (western Sydney) on Sunday morning I took it out, 3rd cast and I hook up solidly on a feisty little bream that went 35cm, towards the end of the fight the rod snapped right at the binding of the second guide from the reel, this was on about 300 grams of drag. I stopped in at Amazon on the way home and they replaced it on the spot no questions asked so I thought they deserved a mention.
Cheers,
Gab.

Re: Daiwa procyon.... and a great tackle shop
Hi Gab,
Good to hear you found a tackle shop who really looked after you. I hope other Sydney members will get the chance to send some business their way.
If I need to get to the tip of my rod I turn the rod around and push the butt end up the deck towards the bow of my kayak then lean back a little to get to the tip.

That's what I do as well but occasionally the butt end slips off the deck and into the water..... I guess it's just a matter of perfecting the balancing act.
