No matter how well we think we've worked it out, we can always learn from others.
I hadn't previously thought of having a knife travel with the lifejacket but, if I went "A over T" and became tangled, it could be the only knife I could find.
As of now, I have a flat/foldable stainless steel "yachties" knife in my lifejacket pocket - thanks Phil.
The flares are also a good idea that I'd overlooked so I'll have a look around for some - thanks Billbob.
