Re: The "Milkcrate".
Hi Phil,
It doesn't match, does it. We can only get red & blue ones over here but on my last trip to Mebourne I noticed that a local milk company over there had lime green ones. Might have to 'aquire' one on my next trip over the border

Re: The "Milkcrate".
If Phil's crate is red on flouro green, I wonder what colour Billy chose for his hatch lids?
These fellas are committing a crime against milk and they're punishing plastic.

Re: The "Milkcrate".
Hi Dan,
Perception have dis-continued those wild multi-coloured hatch lids. It's back to plain 'ole black now.
Shame.. I liked them although more people than not didn't.

Re: The "Milkcrate".
Hey Phil,
What’s the best way to attach the shock cord to the kayak. Just use a plastic fastener?
I want to put a small “crate” on the back of the Cobra. It will more likely be some type of Tupperware container.
Would the shock cord be enough to hold a crate down?

Re: The "Milkcrate".
Hi Rod,
To hold my crate in the tankwell of my old Fish-N-Dive I used a length of hollow braided poly rope on each of the front 2 corners & a loop of Ø6 shock cord on each of the back 2 corners. Each free end of rope (or shock cord) had a carabiner on it that clipped onto a deck loop fitted to the top edges of the tankwell. Take the crate out & the ties go with it.
The tankwell on a FnD isn't level so I spaced the crate up with pieces of timber screwed to the crate bottom. This also kept the bottom of the crate above the waterlevel when it floods.
My reasoning for using poly rope at the front corners was so the shock cord at the rear corners would be pulling up against something rigid so the crate would always fit in a fixed position rather than having shock cord at all 4 corners just pulling against each other & having no fixed position for the crate.
This method held the crate really rigidly & should work for a Tupperware type box as long as the box is rigid enough not to pull out of shape from the tension of the shock cord. I don't know if a milk crate will fit in the tankwell of an Explorer but if it doesn't just sit it on the top edges or screw a couple of lenghths of 25mm square hollow aluminium tube to the bottom of the crate & sit the tubes on the tankwell edges.
I hope this helps.

Phil.

Re: The "Milkcrate".
Hi Rod,
I have fitted a small tote tray on my Explorer.
I affixed 4 stainless eyes to the top corners with small stainless bolts and tied it to the deck loops with spectra.
To keep it level and under tension I inserted a piece of pool noodle under the front section.
It works as a shallow live bait tank or storage and has little windage as it is 43cm x 32 cm x 13cm.
I really enjoyed your article on the South Coast.
Still no mackeral aboard the yak yet but have had a couple of adrenilin surges when a whaler shark and a big mack tuna took my trolled baits on 4kg.

Re: The "Milkcrate".
Good one Ray.
Got any pics you can show me of the tote tray?
Did you have to change your dacks after the whaler shark hooked up
