Tarpon 120 Fitout

Hey Guys emoticon

Thought I would create a thread and post some pics of my Work In Progress, fitting out my new Tarpon 120.

First thing off the rank are a couple of pics of my fish finder mount.

I've fitted a Lowrance X47, I chose this model mainly due to its ultra compact size, I wanted something to find depth and structure without being too intrusive in the ****pit. As you can see the X47 fits about as perfectly as I could have hoped.

The standard bracket was a little too large to fit into the cup holder, but a little sanding brought it down to a perfect fit.

I drilled a hole into the back of the mounting bracket and ran the cable down inside the bracket, and through a hole in the hull large enough for the plug. I then went around the cable with electrical tape to fatten it up a little to make sealing easier. I sealed the hole in the hull with a generous amount of Lexel. The mounting bracket was bolted to the kayak using stainless nuts/bolts/washers, and Lexcel to seal inside and out.

The last task will be to fix the transducer to the hull. Still thinking about the best way to tackle this one, will post more later on after its complete.

Hope someone finds this interesting/useful emoticon

Regards,

- Dallas

Nice job Dallas. Nervously drilling holes & fitting-out your kayak can be rather stressful but that all fades away when you stand back & look at a nice neat & purposeful job.

Hi Dallas
How did you go fitting the transducer to your 120 tarpon, Have you tried it out yet.
I fished Clear Island Lakes last weekend and hooked a good size bream trolling a gold jackal lure and 1 Bass trolling a powerbait 3'' minnow on the other rod, must catch up with you soon and have a fish.

Re: Tarpon 120 Fitout

Hey Spotty,

The transducer mount went fairly well, at first I thought I may have botched the job (air bubbles?) but happy to say when I tested it everything seems to be working well. I used Selleys All Clear Araldite in the end, it did take a long time to cure correctly, and the job wasnt a neat as I would have liked but it works, so I'm happy emoticon

I mounted the transducer beneath the hatch in the photo's above, mounted forward a little (between the two scuppers in the photo) so as not to interfere with the cat bag and contents.

My battery is stored in a small cooler bag which fits nice and snug between the inside of the centre console (under the scotty mounts)at the front.

I've also since mounted a second scotty powerlock to the centre console as I found the forward mounted rod holders much easier to use than the rear flush mounts, and less prone to lines tangling, my centre console is quite full now but still very functional emoticon very happy with the result!.

I havnt been out on the water lately as I have been too busy with work, and also organising a wedding (my own!). I'm taking the plunge in 3 weeks time so I wont have a lot of time until after the wedding/honeymoon.

The bucks night is coming up, the boys and I are heading down to Texas to chase some Murray Cod and Yellowbelly, and I'm taking the two Tarpons of course so I'll make sure I take plenty of pictures to post on here when I get back!!

Once I'm back from Borneo at the end of September (honeymoon) we'll have to touch base and organise a trip out onto the lakes spotty emoticon......as soon as I return I'll post something and we can work out details.
I have a mate who might fill the spare YumYum Yellow Tarpon as well emoticon
