Installing permanent transducer?
Hi guys,
Have just bought an eagle fisheasy 2 for my swing and installation is iminent! However, i want to do it permanently with lexel and was wondering if the idea was to make a big pool if lexel and then really jam the tranny down in it whilst twisting it. Is the idea to get the tranny to sit in the goop or hard against the hull? This would change how hard i push!
Cheers
p.s does anyone know of a really good spot to put a finder on a swing?

Re: Installing permanent transducer?
Howdy,
You should minimise the amount of glue (lexel/epoxy etc.) between the trans & the hull because the more glue there is the more chance there will be trapped air.
Roughen-up the area with coarse sandpaper & clean it with metho, then make a pool of Lexel. Minimise the amout of trapped air in it by squeezing it out slowly & keeping the tip of the tube buried in the pool as you squeeze it out.
Sand then clean the bottom of your trans & lower it into the pool back edge first, then push the front edge down till the trans is hard against the hull surface. This will help push any trapped air out. Now stick a good weight on top of the trans to hold it down hard while the glue sets.
The best spot on any hull is a flat area that is not prone to flex & where you have enough access room.
On the Swings I stick the trans down on the centreline of the hull forward of the small centre hatch between the 2 rearward footwell scupper holes.

Re: Installing permanent transducer?
Thanks Phil,
Where did you put your screen on the swing? I am thinking about putting it betwwen the small hatch between your legs and the centre flush mount rod holder. This seems a good spot and then i can feed the wires down the rod holder... What do you think?

Re: Installing permanent transducer?
Here's where I fit my screens for a couple of reasons:
1).. If you tip the kayak & have to do a wet entry you'll want anything mounted in the ****pit as far out of the way as you can get it to avoid damaging the equipment... or 'the family jewels' as you drag yourself back onboard.
2).. Likewise you want it out of the way so you don't bump it getting in & out normally.
I don't fit a flushmount into the centre hump... I use that space to attach a small poly cutting board I use to keep lures & bait on. Mounting the screen where you suggest would get in the way.
Fitting the wires is easy. Most f/finders will allow you to take them either through or under the mounting bracket. Don't be afrai of drilling holes in your boat.. just fully think it through before you drill & then use plenty of good quality sealant.
