Rod Holders
Hi everyone
I'm trying to work out how many rod holders I will need but having never fished from a kayak, I have no idea... so here are my questions...
- will my rod get in the way of paddling if I place it in a rod holder located at the front side (where flushmounts are usually located at the front)?
- Do I need two rod holders at the rear? I want one for trolling but do I need two if I can place one in the front?
- What are the benefits of an adjustable rod holder? I understand that they move around but I guess once you hook up you take the rod out of the holder anyway...
Any suggestions would be much appreciated as I am a newbie.
Cheers

Re: Rod Holders
Hi Oost,
Rod holders behind the seat are used for transportation as well as trolling as, properly positioned, they don't interfere with your paddle stroke. Almost any flushmount mounted forward will be used for fishing while at anchor only as the rod will interfere with a normal paddle stroke.
Adjustables can also cause problems with paddle-strike but if mounted in the right location they are just out of range but just in reach. The other advantage is they can hold your rod at a much lower angle to the water so the rod tip is in sight rather than stuck up in the air.

Re: Rod Holders
Spot on Phil.
I use my forward flushmount as a holder when de-hooking fish, changing lures etc.
I can't paddle with a rod up front.
