Fighting fish from a yak?
Just wondering, Had a chat to some yak fisherman and they tell me they lose more kingfish then they catch because they get towed towards the structure and can't do anythihng about it.
could you (if specifically fishing to fish that will tow you) deploy a sea anchor once hooked up to prevent yourself being dragged towards the structure or out to sea?
Another if trolling for kings or structure seeking fish should you continue to paddle past the hook up point to try and drag the fish out from the structure?
i ask this because i have also read some of billbob's stories about being towed a couple of kays out to sea by tuna and mackeral.
as i said just wondering

Re: Fighting fish from a yak?
i have also lost fish that i have hooked up and gone straight for the bottom on occasions.as you say probably kingfish.i havent thought of anyway to stop it yet.with regard to hooking fish that tend to run on the surface like mackeral i find that by them pulling me around on my yak it helps to tire the fish out easily and you have less chance of loosing your fish if it takes of and wants to go under your boat,as your boat just goes in the direction the fish goes.i tend to keep my rod tip pounted towards the front of my yak and always try to fight the fish from the nose of my yak instead of fighting over the side,as i find the fish tires much quicker and doesnt want to take of again when ready for the gaff
regards
steven.
