posticon Hot Wheels 1966 Batmobile

It's obvious with a quick check of ebay that these things are out all over the country. My question is, who so few? I have been to every store I can think of numerous times, and have yet to see one. I know from my conversations on other boards that most people are having the same problem. I know hot wheels had to pay a TON for this license, and they obviously have the facilities to produce as many as they want. So the small numbers must be on purpose. Why? Do they figure as long as people are looking for the batmobile that maybe they will buy other hot wheels? I just think that right now they have the hottest product in car collecting, and you can't find them ANYWHERE. They aren't making a dime off the 15 dollar ones on ebay (other than the original sale of course). Maybe someone more familiar with hot wheels collecting can explain this to me, while I begin month three in search of a freakin one dollar car.

My neighbor is a HW collector and I was aksing him to keep an eye out for one, he just chuckled and said he'd be lucky to find one himself. As I have said before, there are 2 different HW clubs in my area, and those guys are crazy. They are at the stores as soon as they open or if a 24 hr. store, like WalMart, they are there at 3 a.m waiting for the cases to be put out. Anyway, we were discussing that 66 car and he was telling me that there are already 2 different versions out, a difference in the grill, and that they are being limited in quantity at the current time. Why? He said that whenever there is a major licensing piece like this the initial run is always limited to attract the hard core collectors. After the feeding frenzy is over, they will re-release the car in more quantity on a later series. Why? Who knows. Thats Mattel I guess.

There is only one Batmobile per case.
Even the collectors who work in or have access to the stores are complaining that the rarer Treasure Hunt cars and Batmobiles have been stripped from the cases and are being sold on ebay.
They have a theory that this is being done at the distributors. I dont know if this is true but I am a member of the HotWheels Club online and the only people who have found a Batmobile has had to buy them on ebay.

I actually know of 3 people that found them for retail on the pegs -- all of them at target I believe. One in West Virginia, the other 2 I can't remember--but they were in the western US. 2 of the guys found 3 each and bought them all, the other only one.

I searched a few places the other day & didn't find one. But I've been kinda passive about it & not as hardcore as alot of people. I'm NOT gonna stalk Wal-Mart trucks at 3:00am, I do have a life, LOL!

I'm pretty sure these will be very abundant soon.

There are no signs of a 1/64 batmobiles at all in Ireland

Unfortunately it looks like eBay or a bud in the states.

I've decided to give up my quest for this one. I'll still look for one if I'm somewhere that sells hot wheels, but I'm making no more trips to my local target or walmart just to see if they have one. I don't even collect this scale really. I'm still excited about the 1/43 scale version, hopefully it will be easier to find.

Small quantities of them have showed up in Germany and Holland. Hopefully this means that they are out everywhere very soon.

I think they will be pretty common later. When they are I'll buy some extras for friends here who live outside the USA so don't get ripped on eBay just yet!
