Batman Novel

Here's a bat-oddity: an original novel based on the 1966 t.v. series called "Batman vs. 3 Villains of Doom." I tried to read it once upon a time, but didn't find it all that engaging. I still like the pop art graphics though.

Does anyone know if they made a novelization of the 1966 Batman movie?

( Nice Pix ) Oh yeah, I have that book but never got around to reading it. Yours looks to be in great shape, that's cool. They also published a few others from that same period. They did ones that revolve around 1 villain like the Joker & Penguin. There's also a very neat one where they reprint fan mail sent in by 1966 TV viewers, mostly children. I think it's called "Fan Letters To Batman". Reading what kids have to say is pretty funny. A lot of them wanted Batman to come to their school & beat-up some bullies.

I never saw any of the other books you mentioned. I was heavy into collecting t.v. show related memorabilia back in the late 70s/early 80s, and I was stunned by the amount of stuff that was put out in such a short period of time. Everybody got a piece of that show, it seems.

Re: Batman Novel

There was indeed a novelisation of the 1966 BATMAN movie. Here is the cover of the UK version and there was also a different cover to the US one. (Looks to me like Victor Paul in place of Burt Ward in the picture too.) I believe these two were the only novels published based on, or featuring on the cover, the TV Batman. The other ones mentioned were reprints in black and white of vintage comic strips. They were reprinted again around 1990 when the Keaton movie was released with different comic book related covers.

Wow! I knew there had to be, since they novelized just about every action or science fiction movie back then, but I never saw it before. I also love to see the British versions of books, like when they would do U.S. and British versions of the Man from U.N.C.L.E. or Space:1999 books. Thanks for sharing!

I guess this isn't the place for the shows you mentioned but I have them myself being from England and a fan of both shows. If you check:

www.ebay.co.uk

you should see a ton of them. Even the books here aren't that rare or difficult to get hold of. For good or bad eBay throws up many nice bits and pieces.

Thanx for posting that pic Martin. I have never seen that 60's paperback book from the UK, it's cool! Anyone who reads the BAT-BLOG knows that I am completely goo-goo for the UK stuff, ha ha!

There were some very recent Batman children's books published in the UK by a company called BIRDHOUSE, I think?? I have a few but they're in storage. I like them because they are more the "comic book version" of Batman & not movie related. I mean, I love the movies but it's neat in this day & age to see some retro Batman!

Speaking of British publications, here is a Batman Annual from 1967:

Image

Ironically, although this annual was likely designed to cash in on the Batman t.v. craze, the interior stories are all pre-"New Look" stories, which don't really reflect the style of the show. The annual also includes Martian Manhunter stories, so they all must've come from early 60s Detective Comics.

I love the British annuals! They are great collectors items because the hardcovers make them less vulnerable to wear and tear.

This is one of my favourite 1960s annuals. From 1968 we are treated to a great cover with a couple of shots from the 1966 movie. Inside of course classic 1950s and early 1960s pre-'New Look' Batman but that is cool too. I agree that the annuals are a little sturdier than some publications but this one has taken a bit of a battering over the years but it is still a favourite of mine from that period.

I have a few of these Signet publications including this one (3 Villains of Doom). I think I have the American version of the movie novelization. I'm away from home now, but I'll scan and post when I get back.
