Everyone's General Thoughts
Okay, So I decided to start a thread where we can all post our thoughts on EVERYTHING we know about The Dark Knight so far. I'll kick things off.
Regarding Nolan returning: Well, I'm extremely thrilled about this. I loved Batman Begins and have loved every other movie Nolan's done. Each is better than the last. I will say that reading interviews where he says that the next movie will be very different sometimes scare me. I think back to Batman Returns compared to Batman '89 and I cringe. But the parts that will be "different" are probably the no-brainers. Like the scope of the movie. Begins was a epic movie, with events taking place in different parts of the world. This next film will me smaller in scope, take place only in Gotham (probably) and probably center more on his detective work than anything else. So the changes will probably be a good thing.
On Bale returning: Bale is Batman to me. 'Nuff Said.
On Ledger as Joker: My initial gut reaction was "WTF?!"... Fifteen minutes later I decided there was NO better choice and Nolan is a genious. I've said this before, I'll say it again: Nolan's the guy that turned Mrs. Doughtfire into a misterious killer, Wolverine into an obsessive magician, The Bad Guy from "The Professional" into Jim Gordon, A Zombie Killer from 28 Days Later into the Scarecrow, and an American Psycho into Batman. He knows what he's doing.
On Holmes being replaced by Gyllenhaal: I hated Katie in BB but I'm a continuity freak and would've put up with her in TDK to avoid an actor change. Just like I thought Kirsten Dunst was misscast in Spider-Man but would've hated if they changed actresses mid series. That said, I think Maggie is going to do a much better job than Katie. She a much MUCH better actress (Just watch Stranger Than Fiction) so I may be able to look past this ONE bad move and enjoy the rest of the flick.
On Aaron Eckhart as Dent/Two Face: Brilliant! BRING IT ON! He's going to SHINE in this.
On getting a new Batsuit: I loved the suit in Begins but if this new suit helps the story move forward and IMPROVES on the old suit, taking out what didn't work and keeping what did... I'm all for it.
On other rumors:
Its rumored the Tumbler will be destroyed - I hope this is false. I love the Tumbler and am tired of the batmobile getting destroyed in every sequel Returns, Forever, & Robin... all destroyed the Batmobile. However if this happens MID-FILM (instead of at the end) and results in the batCYCLE not a new batmobile... Then I may be able to live with it.
Its rumored Maroni will be in the film - I'm all for that.
Its rumored Maroni scars Dent - I'm all for that.
Its rumored JOKER scars Dent - If Maroni is there, I don't see what reason there is to change the Long Halloween origin to the Joker scarring him. But if Maroni is NOT there, then its okay.
I gotta head off to work. I'll come back and post more later. Discuss in the meantime.

Re: Everyone's General Thoughts
About the only thing I can add is I too love the Tumbler! But, seeing that this car was a prototype for the actual Batmobile it makes sense. I hope they eventually have a really great Batmobile and/or BatCycle. I think they will. Not only does it go with the story but it's a NEW toy they can make money on, ha ha!
I think Nolan is a great director & my feeling is that he really really CARES about Batman while other directors were "just doing it as a job to make money". I think he understands & respects both the MYTH & character while other people were like "He's just a comic book character for little kiddies".
There really hasn't been a lot of new reports about the movie except for some fake photos of Heath as Joker. They have started filming some stuff in Chicago so hopefully there will be some more reporting very soon.
I don't think there will be any new actors involved as most of the major characters are covered except if they bring in a Harley Quinn character, that's only a rumor though.
I didn't like Katie Holmes but I also DON"T like it when they change actors...but what's her name is really good so it will be o.k.

Re: Everyone's General Thoughts
Regarding Nolan returning: Nolan has my full confidence. He has yet to prove otherwise. If the guy has made a bad movie, I haven't seen it. He is the perfect director for this series.
On Bale returning: I'm sure others will play the Bat in my lifetime, but none will do better. He is to batman what connery is to bond for me.
On Ledger as Joker: Well, I'm still a bit shaky about this, just because I haven't seen him do much work that would make me believe he could pull off my all-time favorite comic book character. I think he can act, but like I said, just not alot of history there. That having been said, I trust Nolan, and I think we all have a pretty good idea where he is going to take the character, and I like it.
On Holmes being replaced by Gyllenhaal: Thank god. I hated her character, but I hated her worse. She was really the only part of the movie I was say was bad. Plus, I think Gyllenhaal is seriously sexy.
On Aaron Eckhart as Dent/Two Face: Fantastic casting. He was born to play this role.
On getting a new Batsuit:I'll reserve judgment until I see it, but if it is more flexible, and thus more realistic, I'm all for it.
On other rumors: Well, I really dig the Tumbler, so I would hate for it to be destroyed, but if it fits the story, I'm all for it. Maroni should be in the film, if they aren't going to bring Falcone back, who I loved. The Joker should NOT scar Dent.

Re: Everyone's General Thoughts
I thought Begins was a terrible movie.
I think Nolan is still about 10 years away from making a 'Great' film. but he is getting there.
I'm still not convinced that Ledger is the best choice for The Joker.
I hated the tumbler and would love to see it burn.
I hope that I am wrong about this being another pile of crud.

Whoa--I think you are the first bat-fan (not that I know a bunch) that says it basically sucked. What didn't you like about it? Are you a fan of the old movies?

Re: Everyone's General Thoughts
I like the '66 movie, love the '89,Returns was OK,Forever and B&R are OK with the sound down.
I have seen some excellent fan films and a few that were good considering the low budget.
I am not the only Bat fan that has a problem with Begins,
I enjoy it up to the part where Bruce is in training at The Fortress of Solitude. From there on, the whole movie is in my opinion deriviative nonsense and only the cinematography is any good.
I can see the thinking behind the tumbler but I would have put some wings on it and made into a combined Batmobile/Batwing.
If Begins had been a low budget fan film then all could be forgiven, but with the massive budget and supposed talent involved then it was one huge turkey.
These are just my opinions and the box office returns for the movie were more than healthy so I know that I am in the minority but I still think the whole thing 'bites donkey noodles'.

Wowza! I hated Katie Holmes in it so I can understand having a problem with the casting there... But I thought Bale and everyone else was spot on.
Then again, and no offense meant what-so-ever to you buddy, but I can tell by your approval of the 4 original films in the series that you and I are just completely opposite sides of the BatFan Spectrum.
I like '89 as a kid, not having really read a bat comic yet. Once I grew up and read the comics, I realized how completely far from the source material it is, hense I no longer like it. Although I rewatch it from time to time for Nostalgia's sake. And I'm a fan of EVERY other Tim Burton movie (Including Planet of the Apes) So i'm not biased.
I LOATHE "..Returns." Even as a kid. It scared me. It's just not batman to me. At all. Not even close.
Forever I tollerated thanks to Kilmer and Carrey, but its got major flaws. Batman and Robin is the cinematic equivalent of a skid mark on a pair of whitey tighties. I can't even stand it with the sound off. Its even visually capable of enducing projectile vomiting.
So yeah, the fact that you can even stand the movies I can no longer even sit through without contemplating suicide, tells me no matter what our opinions will differ.
Phew... okay... so... I LOVE YOUR USERNAME DUDE!

Re: Everyone's General Thoughts
I'd been reading the comics for years and was losing interest. When Batman '89 came out it was like a dream come true and the influence it had on the next generation of artists and writers took the comics to a whole new level.
The other movies I look on as Elseworlds one-shots that have some serious flaws but are still valid.
I have been here before. I am a huge fan of 2000AD comics and Judge Dredd. I nearly cried when I heard that they were making a Judge Dredd movie with Sylvester 'Hey! Anybody wanna buy a monkey' Stallone as lead. But the movie was actually good and Stallone rocked as Dredd. So, even though I have very low expectations for The Dark Knight, as a Joker fan I may yet be impressed by Ledger *fingers crossed*.

Re: Everyone's General Thoughts
Im being very hopeful for this one. I wasnt that impressed with Begins. I remember walking out of the theatre with everyone and a couple buddies of mine just looked at the expression on my face and saw that there was a level of dissappointment.
Batman vs. Joker is supposed to be huge. I really want WB to promote this film. I dont expect, or want, a repeat of 89. That was something that can never be outdone in my opinion, leave that in its place in bat history, create something unique and new with this franchise I say.
Bale was okay, I had no problems with him at all as Bruce Wayne. I think he needs to work on his Batman voice tho. It just didnt seem natural to me. I guess "forced" is how everyone had described it.
Ledger as the Joker, Ill wait and see. Hard to pass judgment on something like this at this stage of filming.
Nolan. I dont care for his style of story telling, however, after seeing The Prestige, I am very hopeful that TDK will be much better than Begins.
Also, lovin' the new "logo" for this film. Im glad they lost that brownish tone.
