TDK Casting News
Okay, i'm sure you've all heard by now, but i'm looking to start up the convos on here:
the character: Rachel Dawes, WILL be returning to The Dark Knight. Katie Holmes, however, will NOT reprise her role. The role will be recast. They're searching for the right actress now.
Matt Damon was approached and offered the role of Harvey Dent. He turned it down. They're looking at other options now.
They're casting other roles as well. Among them is one Latina Cop in her 30's. Obviously Rene Montoya!

Okay, you can read my thoughts on this on my comic blog, which has be updated twice, btw. But in short, here are my thoughts:
Katie Holmes Gone = Bitter Sweet. I'm glad she wont be fouling up the sequel, but in a way, i'm upset that with recasting it'll ruin the continuity of this new bat movie series. That said, if we MUST have Rachel Dawes back, then recasting it would over all be a good thing, because in my humble opinion, Holmes sucked. Lets get a better actress in there that can do the role justice. My suggestion? Rachel McAdams.
Matt Damon passing on Dent = Dumb move by Damon. He's gonna look back on that and wish he had snatched up the role while it was available. He could've done pretty good with it. But, lets move on and get somebody even better! CLIVE OWEN DAMMIT!
Rene Montoya in the film = SCORE!!! Very excited about this. Now, i'm a sucker for Penelope Cruz. I wanna marry her. I'd let her talk bad about my mama, cuz she's so dang sexy, i'd even find her cursing out my mama to be hott. But if that's not in the cards, pick #2 would be: Rosario Dawson.

Thank goodness Katie is not back. The only thing that would be better is if the character was gone too. She was the worst part of Begins. She is a terrible actor. I hope Rachael has a VERY small role in the next one.
Matt Damon is one of my favorite actors--I really wish he would have taken the role. He would have been great. I guess he figured one franchise commitment was all he needed.
Rene Montoya could add to the movie, I doubt it's a big role, probably won't pull down a big name, but you never know.
This movie will hang on the script and the performance of Heath Ledger. We know the effects will be good, the established actors (other than Holmes who is no longer a problem) are good, I think this can be a great movie.

I hope so. But if that's the case--I don't understand why they just can't drop her altogether. I'm thinking she may get killed--but that's just a guess.

the general fanboy rumors say she's getting whacked early on in the film. I originally thought, "Well, if you're just bringing her back to kill her, to please the fans, then just drop her all together. We only wanted to see her killed cuz we hated Katie Holmes. But if she can't come, then just drop the character all together. No need to kill the character with a new actress."
But then i realized, if she IS being brought back to be killed, and they're actually going through the trouble of recasting, then it means its written into the story in such a way that it CAN'T just be dropped. Nolan probably wrote it into the plot in a way that'll drive the Batman deeper into darkness. First his parents. Now Rachel. It would make it impossible to simply drop the character and ruin the plot of the entire movie.
So... yeah.  If all the rumors pan out, she wont get much screen time, but the little time she does get, will have a very big effect on the rest of the film.

Hmm, This is interesting about the Rachel character. I thought "Katie Cruise" was the weakest actor in the movie but everyone else did a top-notch job!
I'm really excited about the New DARK KNIGHT Movie & can't wait!!

The Latino review is reporting that Aaron Eckhart is now in the mix for Harvey Dent, I think he would be a good choice! They also say that Maggie Gyllenhaal is being considered for Rachel Dawes. Haven't seen her in anything, but she looks the part.

The Rachel Dawes character realy isnt a big deal to me. Harvey on the other hand is major, I really wish they would announce it. I dont think I know who this new name is thats going around. I honestly dont want a "big" name.

Hi all ~
I couldn't agree more about Katie Holmes being the weak link in "Batman Begins." She was terrible in it! No matter what happened, she always had the same expression on her face. LAME!
Maggie Gyllenhaal is a good actress. Too bad she is taking over the role (& rumor has it ~ being killed off) now & didn't play the part in BB. With her, Rachel could have been a more compelling character.
