FREE COMIC BOOK DAY Saturday May 5th, 2007

Just a quick note to everybody to be sure to hit your friendly neighborhhod comic book shop on Saturday May 5th to get your free comics!!

This year they don't have a Batman title but there is a Justice League one so be sure to grab that it!!

I'm kind of excited about the one titled FORGOTTEN PEANUTS which will have Charles M Schulz Peanuts comic strip reprints that have NEVER been reprinted until now...that should be a good collector's item.

Yup, I missed this place...lol. Peanuts is the only thing that I ever really got into before Batman! Charles M. Schultz was the reason I ever started drawing!

Here's my small Charles M Schulz story.

Awhile back my girlfriend & I would go to Kansas once every month for a HUGE Sunday Flea Mkt they had in Wichita. We live in Oklahoma, which is just below KS, so it was always a nice short trip, about 2 hrs.

Anyway, we would always leave the flea mkt around 10:00. It was usually "Game Over" at that point & we kind of developed a tradition of eating breakfast at our favorite greasy-spoon diner & then went to go check out the Wichita Art Museum ( Free admission on Sun ) before we headed home.

Well, one day we were heading toward the museum when all of a sudden we saw this HUGE GIANT BANNER advertising an art exibit for Charles M Schulz PEANUTS ART...I nearly freaked! When we arrived we were told the main gallery was totally devoted to his work. We walked around for about 2 hrs spending alot of time looking at every single piece of original comic strip art. O knew I would probably NEVER see anything like this in our neck of the woods so I wanted to remember every moment, every line drawn. They arranged it to start in the 1950's, then 60's, etc...That was kinda neat because you could see the "evolution" of both the art of the strip & the development of the characters....a great idea! Then at the end we walked around this corner & there was the original drawing table that Schulz used to draw the strip on. There was this curator standing there that we knew & he filled us in on some history. He said that the table was a gift from Schulz' dad once he started Peanuts. It was an antique at the time his dad gave it to him & Schulz loved it so much he made it his ONLY drawing table for the entire 50 yrs he drew the strip. Then, after sharing his story, he said, "Go ahead...touch it!" We looked at each other kinda puzzled & then asked him, "we can touch this desk". He said, "Yeah, go ahead, nobodys looking...ha ha". I placed my hand right on the center of the drawing area. I hate to sound like a wuss but I almost started to cry. I mean this was a major historical artifact that many people don't even get to see, let alone, touch!! That was our BEST trip there!!
