Who is your Favorite Batman Artist?
I thought this might be an interesting thread. Who's your favorite Batman Artist, Past & Present?
Bob Kane - Because he's THE MAN!
D ick Sprang - He has a really great vintage 40's graphic style. It's sort of cartoony & very realistic all at the same time. All of his comic book covers are classic works of ART!
Neal Adams - Hands down the greatest Batman Artist EVER!! Neal was doing the hyper-realisim thing in 70's comics wayyy before anybody else & was just a great draftsman. His attention to detail was so insane sometimes you thought you were looking at a photograph! Also, he liked to make Batman more of a "Detective" which I've always liked.
Jim Aparo - He was a main Batman artist in the 80's when I was really collecting the titles so this answer might just be nostalgia but he had a very distinct style you could always notice. I loved his work on The Brave & The Bold.
Frank Miller - OK, at 1st I thought his Batman ART was crappy. I mean, he does have a sort of sloppy simple style. But, after reading THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS it blew me away! If you have never read that TPB you should because it's just GREAT ART! The storyline is incredible & it had a weird feeling about it. You were sort-of on edge reading it & it had a hyper-realisim feel about it too. Like, the way the media ( TV ) talked about Batman & crime. I didn't care for the sequel that much, it was no where close to the greatness of the 1st one. In fact it was so bad it kinda pissed me off.
A Modern Day Bat-Artist I really like is Jim Lee.
Now, his style gets kinda old after awhile but he's a great draftsman like Neal Adams. His work is extremely extremely detailed & that's just eye-candy to me. I mean he must spend an hour drawing sole-thread on the bottom of Batman's boots, ha ha. He also came into his own when comic book color was taken over by computers & the shading effects are awesome!
I'm sure I'm leaving out many more Bat-Artists I really liked but these are the main ones.
OK, Now your turn

Re: Who is your Favorite Batman Artist?
my "Classic Artist" choice would be Tim Sale. I love his simple, dark, somewhat chaotic portrayal of the Batman.
My "Polished Up Supreme Artist" choice would obviously be Jim Lee. I know a lot of folks think he's overrated. I dissagree. I think he's fantastic.
My "In Between Supreme and Simpler Artist" would be Andy Kubert. I love his Batman.
Now, i know these are all pretty new guys but 2 things you have to keep in mind:
1) I'm a fairly young guy who's only been reading Batman comics for about 8 years.
2) I love me some eye-candy and those "way back when" artists just don't do it for me. I don't like how the backgrounds were rarely paid attention to, and the cheezy poses, etc. And don't get me started on the colors.
I'm just a really picky guy. I love a good visual feast on my comic page.
(i did however love Miller's Batman in TDKR. So go figure.)

Re: Who is your Favorite Batman Artist?
My personal favorite will always be Neal Adams. In my eyes nobody will ever draw Batman, the Joker, or Green Lantern any better. Some other favorites in no particular order: Bernie Wrightson, Jim Lee, George Perez, Rags Morales, Matt Wagner, Jim Aparo, Kevin Maguire....I could go on forever.

Re: Who is your Favorite Batman Artist?
I have some signed prints from Jerry Robinson,Perez,Giordano,Marshall Rogers and Arthur Suydam I would like to get one each from Tom Fleming and Alex Ross when I can afford them.
I also really like Brian Bolland.

I second that I love it when I turn the pages of a comic and get so engrossed in the art that I forget to read the words.

Neal Adams..absolutely! Though I think his best stuff was the Green Lantern/Green Arrow stuff. Some of the best comic book art in history as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Who is your Favorite Batman Artist?
Looks like my faves are already taken into account and I ain't surprised. I guess I go for the obvious 'greats' with Kane and Robinson to start, Sprang, Infantino, Adams and Aparo too. That new BATMAN COVER TO COVER book is the greatest. I recommend it to any fan of the comic book Dark Knight.

Neal Adams and Jim Lee! I also don't mind Frank Miller, though some of his material is a little too gory for my personal taste.

Who is your Favorite Batman Artist?
In descending order…
Neal Adams—my top favorite with Ra's Al Ghul and Man-Bat, he’s the best of the Best (I even have is Green Lantern run with Denny O’Neal)
Carmine Infantino—probably one of DC’s best cover artist to date
Marshall Rogers—Hugo Strange, Deadshot, and Joker Fish—great stuff
Jim Aparo—my first Batman artist with great covers and A Death in the Family as my first big comics event
Jim Lee—Hush was excellent and made me excited about new Batman comics again (just recently picked up some of his early X-Men stuff)
Honorable mention…
Alan Davis—wish he had done more than just Detective #569-575
Norm Breyfogle—especially the early Tim Drake Robin issues have high nostalgic value
