What is the Best NEW Batman Comic Book to read?
I collected comics hardcore back in the 70's & then 80's/90's but kinda got out of it for awhile & am not currently reading anything new that's out. My main focus for a long time has been Batman Toy Collecting & I have not been reading the comics.
If I were to buy just one title of Batman which one would be the best?
Batman, Detective Comics, Batman Strikes ( kidding ), or Legends of the Dark Knight??

Well, it really depends what you're looking for. For the book that best represents the character (IMO) from all sides, i'd recommend BATMAN. But if you're a fan of highlighting Batman's detective skills, then obviously DETECTIVE COMICS is the way to go. I personally don't read Legends of the Dark Knight. They're usually stand alone stories and aren't necessarily always in continuity. Although i do pick it up when there's a big event that crosses over all the Batbooks (Like "War Crimes" and "War Games" did not long ago.)
Also, you shouldn't overlook the NIGHTWING and ROBIN books. ROBIN especially has been extremely well written lately. I'm having some problems with NIGHTWING right now but it's normally a very good book so i'm holding out hoping it'll get much much better soon.

Detective is the best it's been in YEARS right now. If you dig the animated series, then you already know you like Paul Dini's writing. On top of that, every issue of his run has been a self-contained story. I highly recommend it if you're only going to buy one title.

That convinced me. The reason I stopped reading comics is because you had to buy 10 different titles in order to actually follow a story. I may actually pick up a few back issues of Detective and see whats going on.

You'll definately enjoy them. Detective was my favorite book of '06, and I read a LOT of stuff. It really goes to show what great writing can do for a book/character when one issue stories (which are usually done just for filler) are better than the multi-part arcs taking place in every other book.
For something non-Batman related, Fell (by Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith) does the same thing and it's only $1.99 cover.

I shall have to keep Detective Comics in mind, since I will need this to research my role as the Caped Crusader in my upcoming fan film, Batman 1969.
My "cornerstone" comic is Catwoman; I have been getting this since 2002. In the past year or so, I have been getting Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman as well.
