"Attack dogs of Christendom"

Christian Attack dogs:

I really liked this recent piece from Christianity Today, because it exactly describes what we have all seen. I was waiting for them to post it on-line so I could share it with you all. If Marti is around, she’ll get a laugh because it describes EXACTLY the site where we met.

I post this from a prominent evangelical magazine to support my frequent assurances to you that: the hostile Protestant sites some of you frequent are not norm, but a fringe. As I've said before, these folks are not representative of most evangelicals. These angry folks always launch into other Protestants too, anyone not conforming 100% to their ideology. As you can see, its not just Catholics who are the target, its just about all of us, anyone not in their particular group.

quote:

A troll through the Internet reveals websites so drenched in sarcasm and animosity that an agnostic, or a follower of another faith tradition interested in what it means to become a Christian, might be permanently disillusioned.
None of the major figures of American Protestantism in the past quarter-century have been spared from attack, from Billy Graham to Rick Warren, from Tim LaHaye to Robert Schuller. The attacks, moreover, are not reasoned or modestly couched criticism, but blasts of ire determined to discredit beyond redemption the targets of the criticism.
The angriest websites are those belonging to small, but disturbingly visible, fundamentalist Protestant groups outraged that fellow Protestants appear to be holding out a welcoming hand to Catholics or Orthodox Christians.
Leading the charge against alleged ecumenists is Apprising Ministries (AM), a New Hampshire-based group whose leader is Southern Baptist pastor Ken Silva. Rick Warren, according to AM, is a "milquetoast." Schuller and the late Norman Vincent Peale are "the devil's duo." Richard Foster (a leading Quaker writer on Christian spirituality), Brian McLaren (a leader in the emerging church movement), and Joel Osteen (pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston) are "vipers of new evangelicalism" and "whitewashed tombs." Through the Web, such commentary gains a global audience—Christian and non-Christian.

Or
quote:

Then there is Pat Robertson, "one of the greatest deceivers in the church world today," and that hand-clasper with "Romanists" and "modernists," Elizabeth Elliot, widow of the martyred missionary in Ecuador, Jim Elliot. Elliot's great offense? Refusing "to separate from heretics." Oh, I forgot to mention: Elizabeth Elliot has compounded her sin by being a life-long Episcopalian.

A life long Episcopalian, gosh, that's down there with running a dog-fighting syndicate, isn't it? emoticon

Thanks for posting that Onslow. It's good to know there are many more people with common sense out there, even if the crazies make more noise.

Well, I know Joyce Meyer gets a lot of slack but it was right after my last steroid IV (3 days in a row of 1000mg) that I knew I had to be there when she came here. There I was in the arena with my dark glasses on (due to the lights) and she had talked about Zacchaeus (Luke 19) climbing a tree to see Jesus and how Jesus wanted to eat dinner with him. Later on... when everyone had stood up for praying... and I'll never forget, "Anyone with familiar spirits, I command those to leave now in the name of Jesus"... I've not done automatic writing since then... and any time I find junk that doesn't belong here it's out of here... I was surprised to find that stack of books but those are out too. Truthfully, she knows how to speak to people. I know Jesus set me free, and life was different after that. I even had a friend ask me several times a week or so etc later, 'ask your guide this...' and I said, "I don't do that anymore, that's all gone."

As far as Rick Warren, I was lent his Purpose Driven Life book for a month or however long it takes to go through the book and I know some people have had problems with that book too but it did get me looking at God differently.

Granted, I errored and got into my anti-Catholic mode for a time and God has been patient with me on that too. I sure don't deserve it but that's how God is with us.

Just like I'm trying to remember regarding how I knew of God's wrath but not much else... and I know I just missed it the first time around. I know I still have a long way to go but I'll will keep going and keep looking UP to where my help comes from!

Doesn't work in Google or Yahoo (yawhat) search (sorry, not a yahoo fan for many reasons) but, when on ask.com I still find a lot. Search on Hasah & ezboard or any of the other ids, I did first join ezboard in my dabbling days as unykornz. And I still do miss that ID but... anywho

Wow, even our old local BBS moved to the internet forum came up... those were the pre-antiCatholic dabbling days. I've been around but thanking God I'm home finally.

There's a unykornz123 blog out there, not me... guess someone else liked my old ID... I think I made up the spelling on it, it's been so long... since the end 2005 at least I *think*.
