What is meant by "Outside The Church There Is No Salvation"?

quote:

Outside The Church There Is No Salvation

The doctrine that "Outside the Church there is no salvation" is one that is constantly misinterpreted by those who won't submit to the Magisterium of the Church. Faith does not depend upon our ability to reason to the truth but on our humility before the Truth presented to us by those to whom Christ entrusted that task. This is why the First Vatican Council taught that it is the task of the Magisterium ALONE to determine and expound the meaning of the Tradition - including "outside the Church no salvation.="

No Salvation Outside the Church

Why does the Catholic Church teach that there is "no salvation outside the Church"? Doesn’t this contradict Scripture? God "desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim. 2:4). "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). Peter proclaimed to the Sanhedrin, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

These are both excellent articles and both reference why Fr. Feeney's position (that all must be actual members of the Catholic Church to be saved) was not true Catholic teaching.

I let that teaching be a stumbling block for me 20 years ago as I remember hearing all our Protestant friends would go to hell unless we converted them. That is not what the Catholic Church teaches! Both of these articles explain it properly.

John 10:16 NAB
(16) I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.

Remember, Jesus IS God and knows the beginning to the end, He knew!

I admit too, I didn't research what was told that week, we had a visiting priest every day for a week, don't know if there's a name for it. He was the same one that warned us about the New Age movement. I know I made my own choices & don't put blame on anyone but me... but I think that was the start of my anti-Catholic mode... it was subtle in the beginning. I think that was a major chunk of bitterness for me. I was angry to say the least when I heard that and back then it didn't sound right but I assumed that's what the Church believed.

And it was more said that it was any of our non-Catholic friends which I assumed at the time meant solely Protestant.
