Quoting praying4patience I have some questions about some specifics that p4p posted on another board, so I'm pasting them here to see if I can gain a better understanding.
#1
quote:
MOST of the priests were not pedophiles to begin with. They were homosexual.
#2
quote:
You have to ask yourself how evil came into the world. We know it couldn't be from God.
#3
quote:
The school is NOT run by the RCC.The diocese oversees the school..the Church(capital c)does not run the school.
I realize it maybe hard to respond to the individual quotes without seeing them in context.
So if somebody could enlighten me I would appreciate it.
I taught as a lay teacher at a Catholic school and so I find these comments confusing.
Thanks.

Re: Quoting praying4patience I can't help you with the first one, the second, yteah, and the third, that one depends on who is running the school, redeptorists, another group or a diosean priest in charge of the parish...
quote:
You have to ask yourself how evil came into the world. We know it couldn't be from God.
This one I will take by the context of just the sentence. Evil is not from God, but is allowed by God due to the First sin and thus the fallen nature by man.
Evil came into the world when Satan rejected God. Then it was all out war to rip the creation God loved from God Himself.
Personally, I think Satan has done a good job so far, but we all know who will win.
If I had some more info, I would know which direction to take on this...
Re: Quoting praying4patience An important note about sex scandals & priests... and this is why I do copy the whole article as one never knows when it will disappear....
Long-sought number surfaces 260 reports of abuse yearly in Protestant churches
SEX SCANDALS | Long-sought number surfaces
Article originally from Chicago Sun Times.
quote:
Protestant numbers have been harder to come by because the denominations are less centralized than the Catholic church. Some of the only numbers come from three insurance companies -- Church Mutual Insurance Co., GuideOne Insurance Co. and Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co. Together, they represent a large chunk of all U.S. Protestant churches.

I'll try to shed a little light on this one. The majority of cases involved priests molesting adolescent boys. Because of the age of the boys, this isn't strictly pedophilia even though the teens were minors. The priests were homosexuals as they targeted adolescent teenage boys. Does that help?
Re: Quoting praying4patience Back to quote #2
God made Satan
Satan rejected God
Satan is still God's creation
Satan is evil
God created a being who rejected Him, and allows that being to infiltrate our world, it still boils down to God's creation.

Re: Quoting praying4patience A friend of mine had this discussion 4 or 5 years ago... God gave us free will... that's the key. Lucifer wasn't always 'satan', he had freewill and he decided to go against God, he wanted to be as God, that was his choice, not God. God didn't create evil, remember the creation account, He looked and saw that all was GOOD....

Re: Quoting praying4patience I am in agreement with you. Lucifer was creaated by God and he chose to rebel.
That potential for evil is within each of us. God made that a part of his creation, so that we could choose. He will not force us to Him, but welcomes our choice to come to him.
There must be at least two things from which to choose or it it not a choice

Re: Quoting praying4patience Yes, that IS my point.... it's been beat into the ground so much I was partially nervous returning because of that too but I knew I never experienced problems my first time around... yet the world capitalizes the issue as if it's the norm. The article re: the same problem in the Protestant realm just shows it's not a primary Catholic thing and it's also not common place in either sector.
Yes I do always seek truth... I looked in the wrong places for a long time... I bought into anti-Catholic garbage for a long time... I'm not trying to be anti-Protestant at all but I have seen the fruits of division in the Body of Christ. It's so clear now. I still so much have a long way to go but it is a journey and I know that.
