Charity - Love, our walk 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 DRB
(1) If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
(2) And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
(3) And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
(4) Charity is patient, is kind: charity envieth not, dealeth not perversely, is not puffed up,
(5) Is not ambitious, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh no evil:
(6) Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth with the truth:
(7) Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
(8) Charity never falleth away: whether prophecies shall be made void or tongues shall cease or knowledge shall be destroyed.
(9) For we know in part: and we prophesy in part.
(10) But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away.
(11) When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child.
(12) We see now through a glass in a dark manner: but then face to face. Now I know in part: but then I shall know even as I am known.
(13) And now there remain faith, hope, and charity, these three: but the greatest of these is charity.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13 NAB
13:1 * If I speak in human and angelic tongues* but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
13:2 And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
13:3 If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.
13:4 * Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,
13:5 it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
13:6 it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
13:7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
13:8 * Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
13:9 For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
13:10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
13:11 When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.
13:12 At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.
13:13 * So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
