Re: For anyone familiar with the Byz Rite
Byzantine Catholics normally receive Eucharist along with Baptism and Chrismation (Confirmation) as infants, and continue to receive communion throughout infancy and childhood, so "First Communion" as we know it is not a common practice in the Eastern Churches.
Anthony Dragna, one of the EWTN experts on the Eastern Churches, once recommended a publishing source to me even though it is Eastern Orthodox in its focus. They publish a book called Anne Learns About Holy Communion which is available from them for $5.00.
Byzantine Catholic and Greek Orthodox theology and practices are virtually identical, so there should be few if any significant differences.

But then again, if this is a conversion process she/they are going through and the child is receiving at an older age, then I am wondering if there is something in that area.
The Orthodox booklet should serve the purpose. Anthony had told me even their seminary uses Light and Life publications.
