Re: Award winning diocesan Newspaper special series on New Age and Christianity Back in the 1986-87 school year I had a modern dance class plus ballet. My modern dance teacher had talked about the Age of Aquarius a few times, I can’t remember now if it was in private conversations we had or to the class. It wasn’t a big class. Even if you think about the movie Hair, “Age of Aquarius” was one of the songs. I used to wear a little mini crystal ball, I used to do a lot of new age things, I was hooked.
This looks to be a good series.

Re: Award winning diocesan Newspaper special series on New Age and Christianity And... I WAS a 'medium' and almost did it for pay... via automatic writing most of the time. Oj vey! I just went to my 'spirit guides' (demons or familiar spirits). I agree with the article, there was no peace... I remember anything from knocking for a few months, to a knock at my door with nobody there, or at a friend's house and hearing someone walk up the stairs and nobody there... So thankful to be delivered from that all!

Re: Award winning diocesan Newspaper special series on New Age and Christianity I'd think there's a variance between people on how they would view God, different shades of gray so to speak. When I was into New Age stuff, I didn't read up on it so much or follow a teacher. I was drawn, really drawn to ESP (checked out books from the library in jr high school), ghosts, hauntings etc... I knew there was more out there than what I saw, which there is but I see 'ghosts' & 'hauntings' for what they are now biblically. Back then I loved watching shows about the psychic that told the 'spirit' to go toward the light... as if we wander around after we die and need to be directed where to go next...
I didn't see God as a 'force', for me personally, just because of how I grew up & what I grew up with, I saw God as a distant overseer of sorts, I also know I didn't understand the cross, I didn't understand why Jesus died... I knew He died for me and rose again but didn't know why...
My thinking back then, and again this is NOT how I think now... this is past tense... but back then my reasoning was we were all created in the image of God therefore we all were creators... on a far smaller scale compared to God but we had the power (limited) to create... hence that's why humans were the most intelligent of all creatures etc etc. Back then I also tried mixing evolution & creation together too which wasn't working either.
Whether or not there's others who fall into thinking I had back then I don't know but I'd assume there's varying degrees.

Re: Award winning diocesan Newspaper special series on New Age and Christianity Just popping in confirming I had reiki done on me by a friend (dabbling days). She was working on my spine. It does make me question reflexology now, it would be like acupressure (or acupuncture w/out the needles). Suppose I need to research that to see if there’s any other books I need to get rid of.

Re: Award winning diocesan Newspaper special series on New Age and Christianity OK, of the handful of people I had asked about reflexology through the course of the past four years everyone seemed to think it was OK... still had this nagging in the back of my mind if this was still a part of new age... at least one other opinion out there concurring with mine so I probably have one more book & a chart to get rid of now.
Reflexology:
This is based on the notion that each body part is represented on the hands and feet and that pressing on specific areas on the hands and feet can have therapeutic effects on other parts of the body. Reflexologists claim to work through the use of the “energies of the nervous, electrical, chemical, and magnetic systems of the body.” However, reflexology has not been scientifically demonstrated to influence the course of any illness. Done gently, it is a form of foot massage that may help people relax temporarily.
Reflexology Charts (hands & feet)... I think I first heard of this late 80's or maybe early 90's and granted I used it for backaches & any other time I had something acting up... I think I even did it on others a few times... if there's at least one Catholic website lumping in Reflexology with the rest of occult... I should take that as my answer I'd assume. I need to pray on this... from another site describing it and this is how my book & info described it... as in pressure points... nothing about 'energies' as the pages say.
quote:
Reflexology is Clearly Different than Massage
Reflexology is clearly different from massage in its origins, technique applications, safety issues, and assessment. The modern-day practice of reflexology is a direct descendant of medical research into the reflex at the end of the nineteenth century in Europe. A variety of therapeutic methods was created to influence the body through the reflexes. One resulting therapy was the work of Dr. William Fitzgerald of Connecticut who created zone therapy, application of pressure to all parts of the body, following a visit to England. His work was gradually developed by Dr. Riley and Eunice Ingham into the foot work known today in America as reflexology.
An established standard of practice has been accepted by the reflexology profession as represented by the professionals organizations, Reflexology Association of America and the American Reflexology Certification Board. It is: "Reflexology is the physical act of applying pressure to feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques that do not utilize cream, lotion of oil, assessed on the basis of zones and reiterative areas with the premise that such work effects a physical change in the body."
