McCain won/Huckabee conceded

guess by now you all know that i supported Huckabee and now will not have the chance to vote for him.I felt satisfied that this man was truly NOT anti Catholic having thorougly researched everything he said.
Outside the smears in the media none of this was true by a long shot. There was a lot of smear and some really dirty pool(mostly by Ron Paul supporters)on this decent man.I also felt very secure he truly represented our Catholic values miles more than the other candidates we were stuck with. That said,a lady i met said it much better than i could so i'll just post her blog.

It's Been A Glorious Fight

We have just heard the news that our man Huck is leaving the race. There have been a few tears here and some anxious queries about the future, but we are not about to lose the vision which this dear and honorable man has inspired in us.

A vision of an America where life is valued and protected at every stage, where faith is treasured, where families are valued, where American workers are championed, where veterans are treated with dignity and gratitude, where our borders and sovereignty as a nation are defended, and where Main Street, working-class America still has a voice and a dream.

Mike Huckabee has cured us of our apathy and frustration and showed us how to work together for a common cause again. He led us to a new plateau where we could see a better America not far off in the distance and inspired us to begin building a path towards it.

We're not going to stop building that path, and this new coalition which Huckabee has inspired and deftly led with wisdom, faith and his blessed, healing humor is not going to fade away. Though we are Evangelicals, Catholics, conservatives, moderates, hunters, truckers, factory workers, veterans, pastors, homeschoolers, public school teachers, Christian Zionists, anti-war protesters, pro-lifers, Fair tax advocates, and even a few Democrats, we're going to continue our crusade for a free, strong and independent America.

God bless you and your family, Mike Huckabee, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for teaching us to believe in ourselves and our country again.

MIKE HUCKABEE 2012!! We'll be there for you, Mike, and we love you!

Absolutely. Gov. Huckabee said in his gracious concession speech:

quote:

Ladies and gentlemen, I called Senator McCain a few moments ago. It looks pretty apparent tonight that he will, in fact, achieve 1,191 delegates to become the Republican nominee for our party.

I extended to him not only my congratulations, but my commitment to him and to the party to do everything possible to unite our party, but more importantly to unite our country, so that we can be the best nation we can be, not for ourselves, but for the future generations to whom we owe everything, just as we owe previous generations all that they have done for us.

Senator McCain has run an honorable campaign because he's an honorable man. One of the things I'm proudest of is that the two campaigns that I believe have been run in the most civil manner are the two in the Republican Party that have lasted on their feet to the final. And I'm grateful for the manner in which he has conducted his campaign.

And, quite frankly, with your great help, I'm very proud of the way that you have insisted that we conduct our campaign. And it's been one that we will always be able to say was done with honor.

It's now important that we turn our attention not to what could have been or what we wanted to have been, but what now must be, and that is a united party, but a party that, indeed, comes together on those principles that have brought many of us not just to this race, but to politics in general.

*Bold emphasis mine

we're hoping he will have a chance to speak at the RNConvention in Sept but from what i'm hearing the Rep Nat'l committee may keep him out of the convention period.

I don't think it helped when the media kept referring to McCain as the presumed nominee something they didn't even do to the Dem campaign. They never asked Hillary why she stayed in the race when Obama was cleaning her clock.

The Huckabee campaign did request a debate with McCain who turned it down.
How many debates did McCain and Huckabee even have? ZERO.
Hillary and Obama had how many? I suspect McCain will pick Romney for VP. I thought that from the day Romney dropped out and gave his concession speach at the Cpac WITH Mccain.
Probably a done deal before he even conceded.
We shall see.
God bless,
p4p

What didn't help was that McCain started winning primary after primary after primary, right from the start. He racked up over 900 delegates to under 300 each for his competitors.

Obama never cleaned Hillary's clock the way that McCain cleaned Huckabee's clock and Romney's as well. That race was always fairly tight, with the delegate count close. Obama never took a huge runaway lead in delegates over Clinton, the way McCain did over his competitors. That's the difference. And last night Clinton was the comeback kid.

I hope she does win the nomination out from Obama because the polls indicate that McCain can easier beat her than him. That especially, and also that even she voted for the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which Obama opposed when it was proposed in the Illinois senate.

I give Govenor Huckabee much credit for his very gracious and unifying concession speech.

No debates? I thought I was just not paying attention, that doesn't make sense.

I'm confused, I know I filled out something asking to switch parties... k... received a card in the mail that still said D and your application has been accepted. I probably need to call or something. That's why I didn't bother going to the elections cuz frankly haven't voted Dem for a while now 'cept for 1 local candidate.

Hope it's not like the Hotel California & can never leave

I did a search on Republican Party Buffalo NY... called, got the URL, have to download a form and mail it... it won't go into effect until the next one but that's cool. Officially I know it only counted for primaries what my card said. Just annoys me because I tried doing this before and they make it look like they'll send you forms but this time all I got was a card... guess that must have been what happened last time too. I just haven't been impressed with Democrats for a while.

Re: McCain won/Huckabee conceded

Couple things about wracking up the delegates. That's true. But as long as McCain didn't get the 1,191 necessary the race was still on.The problem was Mike probably got just as many states as McCain but they weren't the states with the most delegates. It's kind of like the risk game.Either you have to take all the small states and get delegates-or win the few but golden states(rich in delegates).McCain managed to get those high in delegate states.Had Mike won Texas first and foremost it would have changed the race considerably and likely forced a brokered convention.Particularly true if he had also taken Ohio, but Tx would have done it.That's why he and Hillary both called Tx the alamo.

But i did run into a guy who reported this from Ohio:

"was a little sad that Mr. Huckabee did not do a little better in my state and winn a few delegates. Democracy is Democracy and in the end, I voted for who I felt was the most Conservative candidate. I was able to convince a few of my friends to vote for Mr. Huckabee, but apparently not enough. The other day, somebody at Church told me that he was voting for Mr. McCain because of National Security. He said that he likes Mike Huckabee and said that he admires my friend and I for sticking by the most Conservative candidate on Life issues until the bitter end. He went on to say that unlike supporters of candidates, he said my friend and I gave a witness for life without making trouble for the other candidates. While, it is not my place to accuse people who support other candidates of being trouble-makers. I must say that one of the things that attracted me to the Huckabee campaign (other than his strong stand for life) was that he just went about his business supporting his own campaign without talking bad about any of the other candidate. It is time to ralley around the winner, but we should still promote Conservative and Pro-Life ideals within the party. I would like to thank Catholics for Huckabee for promoting this good candidate to American Catholic.

I would like to say on a side note, that while Mr. Huckabee did not win any delegates from my state, in several precints in my city, Mr. Huckabee won a plurality of the votes for Congressional delegates. Several Catholics over the last few days told me to just give it up and either for Mrs. Clinton or Mr. McCain because Mr. Huckabee did not have a chance. I told them that my conscience would not allow me to do so. They told me to recheck my morals. Perhaps, if they would have rechecked their morals, Mr. Huckabee would have won at least a few delegates, but that is how it goes."

However, i don't think he's going to be welcome in McCains circle of ppl.Not from what i'm hearing and he may be dismissed from the Republican National Convention. It's rare when they omit a loser to speak-they usually try to be inclusive. But as i get the buzz it seems they're going to make an exception in Mike's case and not invited him. That's the word. We'll see.

I see a trend in the Republican party this time around that i don't really like.In an effort to be inclusive and grab a certain kind of vote they are dismissing the evangelicals who so whole heartedly worked to get Pres. Bush elected. They don't seem to feel they need them anymore. They're looking towards the independents and 'moderates.'

Look at Rudy Guilliani.Whoda thunk he'd be a great pro life candidate?

So here comes McCain who they think can grab the moderate and independent vote.
Know what i think;he's going to lose some of the conservative vote.Obama can get those independents too if that's the nominee. He better pray to God it's Hillary.Obama will clean his clock.
I found SOME Democrats that were thinking about Mike beleive it or not. They didn't agree with him on all the issues mind you-some but they liked the refreshing and above board campaign he ran for one thing.
Some things transcend politics and Mike was very good at bringing people together when the media wasn't painting him to be some stupid, preaching, anti Catholic hate mongerer.
But the message never got out.We had our 'presumed' nominee.
God Bless,
p4p

Hopefully this is the last primaries I'll have to sit out. I asked them for papers so I could switch & I was sent a card.. AGAIN. I know I'm a registered dem, don't want to be anymore. :(

I would've gone independent if I could have, then again the past few elections I have been voting rep except for 1 local candidate. I have the URL for the forms now, going to either see if I still have paper... OR, copy the PDF to a jump drive & print it tomorrow... or may be able to just walk to their office too. I've honestly tried doing this before, this was the 2nd year and once again no papers, just thanks for signing up. :-/
