Backgrounds and graphics

The masthead needs a solid black background or else it ruins the illusion that it's a physical object.

However, it was never my intent to limit our freedom to change the background.

So there's a tradeoff here. Should we lock the background color to black and keep the existing masthead? Or should we retain the freedom to change the background and I'll come up with a different masthead that doesn't rely on any certain background color.

A new masthead that doesn't rely on a certain background color might not be as fancy as the existing one that DOES rely on the background color. We'd hafta just see what happens.

I'm not committed either way. But I don't want to have a broken illusion up there. I realize this might be sort of esoteric. What do you guys think?

I don't know. How's that for help? (Wasn't the stripe blue originally or it just the glue I've been sniffing? I bow to your expertise. If people don't like it they'll let you know I'm sure. LOL!

Me like this one! Keep the black, which is the perfect color to offset and highlight holiday themes.

And you know Vogue categorically accepts black as the universal color.

Yeah it was blue, changed to dark rusty red for Halloween, and will be back to blue on Nov 1.

Basically, do you want to keep changing the color of the background (this will cause me to redo the masthead - which is no sweat), Or do you want to keep the background black?

There are no wrong answers... emoticon

Black is not a color.

Chitsky can be such a pita. emoticon

My vote, cast with solemnity and democratic choice is to keep the non color. Black.

I think you did a masterful job with THIS masthead, and am reluctant to change what is already so perfect! Buster, changing themes in the globe, Chit Chat, 3-D effect .... it's all way cool.

Thanks!

It was never my intent though, to forbid playing with the background color. I never said anything about it and I guess I just assumed it would stay black. That's my bad.

So if that's one of the things Chit (or anyone!) likes to do, and it's important to her, I can totally respect that. I want to help make this place comfortable, not make rules and restrictions. emoticon

Thanks Chit!

My recommendations:

Stick with what we have mainly because it's less work for me.

We should strive for a consistent look that is always the same, but that provides room for you to add your flourishes at your whim.

I think the background should be the immoveable foundation of our site's visual style.

I don't know what I can provide to substitute for the creative thrill of changing the background. Maybe the pride of a consistently tight lookin' webpage will help. emoticon

Would it be better to do the whole background in black, including the autumn leaves area?
