Link underlining
I like how the page looks without underlined links. It looks clean, uncluttered.
But there's a recurring problem I've noticed with the plain links. Nobody recognizes them as links and they go unclicked. People link things and then the very next post will act like the link wasn't there.
People subconsciously scan for those underlines. We have all been trained that an underline means clickable.
Without the underline cue, people must wave the mouse around the post, looking for the overunderline to appear. Which is okay once or twice, but people quickly stop scanning for links at all because it gets tedious.
There are other options. We might, f'rinstance, make links bold and some other complimentary color. This way links would stand out just by lookking at the page, but we'd still have no underlines. This option might look best, with experimentation. The wrong color would look bad, so this method really depends on choosing a nice complimentary color.
I vote we do something besides plain links. What do you think?

Re: Link underlining
I've missed several links due to the fact they are not hightlighted. Only when the thread has been responded to do I realize what has happened.
I like the idea of using a color and bolder type.
Thank you Phayyde. You, Bob and Chit have made this board look TERRIFIC!

Re: Link underlining
Wow I tried yellows and reds and pinks and all sortsa other combinations. It looked like a big gay circus. Yuk.
I wound up using CSS to get all links to be automatically bolded. I also made the following subtle changes. Er, I HOPE they are subtle.
* Links you haven't clicked are slightly brighter than everything else.
* Links you have already clicked will still be bold but slightly darker.
* When you hover your mouse over a link, it should do the same thing it always did.

Re: Link underlining
I don't know... maybe it's too subtle...
I have embedded a link in this paragraph, can you find it?
And for comparison, here is a
visited link right next to an
unvisited link. Can you easily tell which one is visited?

Re: Link underlining
I can tell the dif, but the Kat likes COLOR!
Would a green against the blue background be more subtle for highlighting if you don't want that pinata effect?

Re: Link underlining
We can certainly try it...
I don't want to make the page look like Cirque Du Soleil again though.
