posticon LCD/etc SYMPTOMS SIGHTINGS

Since "New Age Tech" is actually Cruel Age Tech, I invite everyone to copy/paste excerpts of:

LCD/LED/Laptop/TV/CRT/phosphor/fluorescense
symptoms testimonials sighted elsewhere online, both past, present & future, including URLs. That way, if the URLs become dead links, at least the excerpts remain.

Suggestion: Print it out, concentrate, and you'll realize the common denominator:
PHOSPHORS (and chemicals actually)

Also check out Survey Link - top of this page!

Symptoms complaints are all over Google, Yahoo, you name it. Keep 'em coming emoticon the more VARIED testimonials there are all in one place, the more clout!

Sorry I didn't start such a thread long ago!

P.S. For UFO sightings, scram!

HDTV's & EMF - CureZone: 4/14/2008
http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=1153664#i
I have read a good bit about EMF's and their effect on our body. Never had much experience personally but had an eye-opening experience recently. I was in a large Sears store decided to check out the electronics while the wife shopped. There was a long aisle with HDTV's on both sides, maybe 6 feet apart, facing each other. I was walking slowly and not stopping to check out any particular tv. Before I was in between all those sets for a full 2 minutes, I got a headache, insides trembling and a slight case of nausea. I got out of there promptly. And I was slightly dizzy for hours afterward.

I looked back and the area was enclosed in glass and there were no customers. The clerk and salesman both were at the entrance.

Fluorescense & fibromyalgia - Jun/9/2002 alt.med.fibromyalgia
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.med.fibromyalgia/msg/7a262760c8109819
I have chronic neck pain, and I have pain/tenderness througout my shoulders, upper back and in my rib cage. However, I don't have chronic pain in my lower body.

I have terrible problems sleeping, and missing even an hour or two of sleep makes me feel horrible the next day. I get a strong and distinct anxiety reaction that gets worse as the day goes on after
missing sleep. Pain does get worse with less sleep also (I've always assumed that was due to increased tension but I don't know).

I don't get migraines. Otoh, I am sensitive to light and have terrible problems under fluorescent lights and/or on computer screens for prolonged periods.

I have tenderness in most of the 18 points.

I know nobody can diagnose here, but would you recommend I look into fybromyalgia as a possibility?

Photosensitivity Proven - Jan 27, 2003 alt.med.fibromyalgia
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.med.fibromyalgia/msg/193b087539406b32
I spent all last semester sick as a dog, and searching long and hard for
a doctor to take my complaints seriously. The one thing that many docs
told me was not true was my photosensitivity. Every day, after I'd come
home from sitting under those danged flourescent lights, my face would
be bright red, and on fire, like I had a sunburn or windburn. But I
thought, maybe they're right, and maybe it's my fevers, or maybe I'm
just flushed.

Well, it has gone away while off from school. Never happened the whole
time I was off from school. Today was my first day back, and I'm
noticing while I'm sitting eating dinner, my face feels on fire!

TO WHICH NETTIE RESPONDS:
My face gets that way from the computer screen.

Monitor Size & Tiredness - Sep. 17, 1998 - comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.adventure

I'm going to get a new computer. I'm considering getting a 17-inch
monitor, but another gamer advised against it. He bought a 17-inch but
traded it back for a 15-inch as he said he was getting headaches and
were getting tired much sooner when playing on a 17-inch.
Anybody got any experience/advices concerning 15 v.s 17-inch monitors
for games playing ?

Cheap 17" Monitor cause eyestrain/headaches at 85 hz - July 30 2001 - jaring.pcbase
http://groups.google.com/group/jaring.pcbase/msg/eb9391fefb0c4b55
I have a cheap 17" Viewsonic monitor (E70, not the flat screen model).
Even though I set the vertical refresh rate to 85MHz at 1024x768,
prolong looking at the monitor makes my eyes water and a bit of
headache. I have not experienced such problems with my older 14" and
15" monitors.

I also noticed most of the 17" inch monitors in the market tends to
look slightly out of focus at resolution 1024x768 and above,
regardless of their prices (RM500 - RM900), whether flatscreen or
non-flatscreen, or brand (I have compared LG, QDK, Viewsonic, Acer,
Panasonic, Samsung, Philips, Mac, Sony, etc etc). The only 17" inch
display with clear focus at such resolution is LCD-based display
(RM2000+). Is this Moire effect, or is it just that this is an
inherent problem with high res?

Using TV As Monitor - Feb.17 2001 - alt.comp.hardware
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.comp.hardware/browse_frm/thread/25e55c26b02e81c3?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fhl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26scoring%3Dd%26q%3D17%2Blcd%2Bdebilitating%2Bgray%2Bbackground
Hi,
Is there any way to use a TV set as a monitor for your computer? I've been
suffering from chronic daily headaches for almost 2 years triggered by the
computer monitor. What I can't understand is that the TV doesn't give me a
headache at all no matter how long I watch it, no matter how close I am to
it, and I never get a headache from sunlight (It seems that there's a
difference between the kind of light coming from a computer monitor or
flourescent lights and that coming from the TV or ordinary light bulb.)

Here's my whole story:

I've been suffering from debilitating chronic daily headaches for almost 2
years triggered by the computer monitor. My headaches get better after I
stop looking at the screen for about half an hour. The
days I don't use the computer at all I feel great.
My headaches are also triggered by flourescent lights.
I tried a TFT LCD monitor, my headaches got better but I still got daily
headaches. LCDs aren't supposed to flicker but I could sure see them
flicker. After 6 months using an LCD, I bought an 17-inch NEC aperture grill
monitor (160 Hz) and a Voodoo video card. It didn't flicker at all, but it
still gave me debilitating daily headaches. I use sunglasses while using the
computer which helps a bit. I also have most of my system colors altered
so that I type on a gray background instead of white. I use a 3M anti-glare
filter, and I sit 25 inches away from the monitor.
My headaches seem to be worse when I get a lot of sleep, and better when I
don't get that much sleep.

I am talking an antidepressant (Nortriptyline, 50 MG/day), which makes me
sleep a lot. I don't know if that is a factor.

What I can't understand is that the TV doesn't give me a headache at all no
matter how long I watch it, and I never get a headache from sunlight (It
seems that there's a difference between the kind of light coming from a
computer monitor or flourescent lights and that coming from the TV or
ordinary light bulb.) That's why I want to try to use a TV as a monitor.

I've had comprehensive eye check-up, in which everything turned out normal
and healthy. I don't wear glasses.

HANS RESPONDS:

Hello Lina. Getting a headache while using a computer indicates eye strain. You do not get one watching TV.
The TV is so much farther than the computer. Your eyes are in close mode when
on the computer. The headache indicates that your eyes are OK for far objects,
the TV, but have problems and strain when focussing on a close object that
keeps the same distance for a long period of time.
Your eye test only indicated that your eyes can focus -- it did
not indicate that they had to work very hard up close.

My recommendation -- get a set of glasses to help you see close. That should
clear the problem.
While your at it -- get a good Video card and LCD monitor, LCD Monitors do not
flicker -- and are a great improvement over a CRT Monitor. The flicker you saw
with the LCD Monitor -- could be your brain substituting the flicker -- after
having gotten used to a CRT Monitor. A similar effect can be seen when
switching from a curved Monitor to a flat one. The brain substitutes and makes
the flat Monitor look concave with the image bowed in.

LCD Monitor hasn't helped my headaches -Sep.24 2000 - comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video/browse_frm/thread/e109666d7da2e4cb?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&rnum=2&prev=/groups%3Fhl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26scoring%3Dd%26q%3D17%2Blcd%2Bdebilitating%2Bgray%2Bbackground

I've been having debilitating chronic daily headaches for the past 17
months. I bought an LCD monitor almost 4 months ago. My headaches have gotten
better but I still get daily headaches even though I'm using LCD.

I'm possitive that they are
from the monitor because I can see an immediate effect. I start getting a
headache about half an hour after looking at my LCD screen. When I take a
break away from the monitor for about an hour the headache goes away. The
days I don't use the computer at all I feel like a millions bucks. Looking
at the screen gives me eye pain sometimes. I don't wear glasses and I don't
have a problem with my eyesight. Now I use sunglasses while using the
computer which has help a bit. I also have most of my system colors altered
so that I type on a gray background instead of white and I have the
brightness and contrast to the minimum.

What else can I do? I want my life back. I've been getting daily headaches
for a year and a half now. I can't stop using computers because I'm a web
designer and even if I moved out of that area the Internet has become my
life.

Could it be that I need a better video card? My LCD monitor is not TFT.
Could it be that I need TFT? Are there any other alternatives?
Please someone help me. I'm willing to pay anything to get my life back.

LED DISPLAY HURTS EYES! 07-21-2007
http://forums.appleinsider.com/showthread.php?t=76968

it's strange, my eyes really start to really hurt after a few minutes with my the new LED Macbook Pro. I'm assuming it has to do with the method used to dim the display. It's like knives in my sockets...! headache inducing..

The other odd thing is after using the display for while, everything has a sort of rose colored tint to it when I look around the room and out the window. The display itself is really a lot more yellow than a normal LCD. I tried calibrating it with an Eye-One display2 but it's the same thing. I know these displays use blue LED with a yellow coating.. To my eyes something is really unnatural about the spectrum it produces.

The display actually cases the most eye strain when I lower the brightness a few clicks. It's almost as if there is a strange refresh frequency or something. It reminds me of when I look at a DLP television- those things drive me crazy too..

someone responds: I bought brand new macbook pro 2.5 MHz in 2008.06.27 and I have the same problem. After 30 minutes of work with the macbook pro, my eyes hurt like well. It's going back to the store.
It’s time to say "I DID NOT SWITCH TO MAC!"
